Berta Bobath nominated by the International Physiotherapy History Association (IPHA) as one of the top ten of history’s greatest physios - The Bobath Concept is the foundation of how we assess and treat our clients at Concept Physio. In fact, our name comes from the fact we use this approach. Berta was a trailblazer in the 1940s who along with her husband Karl (a doctor) revolutionized how people with neurological injuries were treated. Even in the 1970s people who had sustained a stroke were given no hope of recovery and rehabilitation services were poorly developed. Over many years, the principles of the Bobath Concept have been adapted and developed with new knowledge and understanding of how the very complicated central nervous system operates. We can thank Bertha and Karl Bobath for this.
