A new session of Canoe Cultures started this week at the park with this hard working crew! They made some great work tables that they will use as work stations. This allowed them to practice the woodworking skills that they are leaning and prepared them for making paddles and working on a cedar strip canoe in the coming weeks
Last weekend, Squamish Canoe Carver Mike Billy Sr. launched his Western Red Cedar dugout canoe, Kikya, for the first time with his son and apprentice canoe carver Mike Jr. The sun came out to greet Kikya, which means Grandmother in the Squamish language, on her first glide through the water. It was a very special day indeed!
From Western Red Cedar log to beautiful racing canoe in 15 weeks. Huge congratulations to Mike Billy for building under an ambitious deadline, to his brilliant ...apprentices Mike jr. & Alvin for their hard work, and to our youth participants who all had a hand in the canoe's journey. The program was made possible through the Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada, The Squamish Nation for providing the very important log, Concord Pacific - Canada for the use of space in Concord Community Park and ongoing program support, and our own team who have helped to make things run smoothly. This has been a rewarding project that we have been thrilled to be able to host and we are excited to see this canoe on the water one day. See more

Good Morning. The park will re-open today at the regularly scheduled time. Thank-you for your patience while we repaired and cleaned up after the storm and wind damage yesterday
The park sustained some damage due to the storm overnight and ongoing high winds. We will be temporarily closed until further notice so that we can repair the damage.
An early stage of the dugout canoe project happening now at the park through to the end of October 2020
So many of the projects happening at our Concord Community Park site are so interesting. While we cannot bring the public in to share these stories in person, we're busily documenting many aspects of them to make sure we can still share what's going on.
While Mike Sr and his apprentices are making great progress on the 4 man dugout canoe, Mike Jr is also putting in some time on a single that he will have manage...d from start to finish. This Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada knowledge-sharing initiative is creating some exciting additional opportunities that we thankfully have the space to accommodate at Concord Community Park. An exciting project happening at the park right now through to the end of October 2020
The persimmons at the park are starting to look juicy . We didn't get any last year, just figs. Now we have both ripening up
Another project we take great pride in is our managing of Concord Community Park. It's an amazing space that's currently in full bloom with lots of great areas for picnics, ping pong and Summer outings. We hope you enjoy this space as much as we do.
The rose bushes at the park really pop now that we have finished deadheading them this week #meidilandpink #rose
The new basketball net is up!
I was very proud to be part of this and excited to see the canoes leave on their first voyage home.
We are happy to announce that our Concord Community Park is now open operating under the health and safety guidelines from the Provincial Health Authorities and City of Vancouver. Team sports are not permitted at this time including the volleyball, basketball and hockey courts. Thank you, enjoy and stay safe. We're open 12-8pm daily.
In light of Covid-19 health and safety recommendations from the Vancouver Parks Board, Concord Community Park will be closed until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.
Great weather on days like today makes the park a beautiful spot to visit - whether to smell the flowers or play ping pong barefoot.
There is an exciting project happening in Concord Community Park - the Western Canada Community Projects Society is building a cedar strip First Nations racing canoe. The project team is moving quickly (not quite this fast!) and were getting the strips on the frame this week. Keep an eye out for public displays once the canoe is complete, including at the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival. Concord Pacific - Canada Concord Social
Last weekend the rains did not deter some bulb planters from coming out to help us prepare Concord Community Park for next Spring. The park is an important back...drop for so many things including community gatherings, sports, and our newest program where we will be building a traditional First Nations cedar strip canoe. Be sure the say hello to our park ambassadors who keep the park in such wonderful shape if you are wandering through. See more
The Western Canada Community Projects Society is recruiting for it's next project and will be building at a site beside the Concord Community Park! Check with your local WorkBC office for eligibility.
Here is a nice article by Sarah Grochowski of the Langley Advance Times Newspaper about the latest canoe we just delivered to Fort Langley, and the talented artist who made a regular boat into a floating work of art. https://www.langleyadvancetimes.com//aboriginal-artists-b/ Dragonboatbc.boatbuilding Dragon Boat BC. Eenie meenie miney moe - These Adirondack-style chairs have been built by some of the Youth Ambassadors/participants, out of cedar and pine, while they learn important life and job skills that will help them secure meaningful employment. Which chair will you sit on when you visit the park? Come by for a visit at the Concord Community Park, and check them out!
Thanks for the photo Jennifer Taylor. Nice to meet friends from south of the border. This is one of the first six teak dragon boats, brought to North America from Hong Kong in 1986, lovingly restored and visiting a boat show or community event near you.
