IMPORTANT UPDATE: Concordia cancels classes March 13-15 and steps up its COVID-19 response efforts Dear members of the Concordia community,... Earlier today the Quebec government announced a number of measures intended to stop the spread of COVID-19: The government is banning all indoor events with more than 250 people, including sporting events. As of March 12, people returning from abroad should self-isolate for 14 days, regardless of where they came from. This is mandatory for public sector employees in the health and education systems. Schools remain open but shouldn't have more than 250 students in the same room. Anyone exhibiting flu-like symptoms should also stay home for 14 days. Our goal at Concordia is first and foremost to ensure that members of our community are safe. At the same time, we want to do everything we can to support students in the successful completion of their studies. To implement the new measures announced by the Quebec government, we are taking the following actions effective immediately: All classes are cancelled March 13-15, and will resume Monday, March 16. During this period, the libraries will also be closed. The university will remain open during this period and all other services will continue as usual; Friday is a regular working day for employees. As of Friday, March 13, courses with enrolments of 250 students or more will no longer be taught in the classroom. These will be moved to online delivery starting early next week. For all other courses, classes continue as usual as of March 16. We are finalizing plans for alternative forms of delivery and will be communicating on this shortly. Accommodation measures will be provided to students who are self-isolating to allow them to continue their studies. Employees who are self-isolating and asymptomatic should speak to their managers about working from home. Any conferences and events regardless of number of attendees scheduled between now and April 15 should be postponed or cancelled. We no longer authorize work-related travel and strongly advise all members of our community against travelling for any purpose for the foreseeable future. We advise any employee or student who is sick to stay at home. While public health officials maintain that the risk in Quebec remains low, each of us has a role to play in limiting the spread of the virus. Please take this responsibility seriously. More information will follow as it becomes available. In the interim, if there are questions or concerns not answered through our updated COVID-19 FAQ, please contact [email protected]. Thank you for your collaboration and support, Graham Carr President and Vice-Chancellor
