The Emily Murphy Centre, an organization that provides safe, second-stage housing for women who have experienced violence, has been able to benefit from a community initiative that matches unemployed skilled workers with not-for-profit and charitable projects in need of specific expertise. The initiative was launched through the Skilled Workers, Sustainable Communities project which is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and the Stratford Perth Community Foundation and made possible through partnerships with the Rotary Club of Stratford, Conestoga Career Centre and local non-profit and charity organizations. To assist its growing number of newcomers, Brantford is using $1.5 million in funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to operate the Brantford Immigration Partnership a collection of organizations including employers, school boards, health networks, government, professional associations, and cultural and faith-based groups to help immigrants navigate the system of supports available to them.
