Confluence Law 14.11.2020

I have gotten quite a few questions from artists, musicians and free lancers in the sporting industry. JT is announcing $500 million in assistance for those people this morning.

Finally! The announcement many of us have been waiting for. Part-time, seasonal workers, those whose EI has run out and people who make less than $1,000 a month will now qualify for CERB and a wage boost for essential workers earning $2500 or less. Still waiting for a few more details, including when this will actually roll out but its a very necessary and positive step in my view. https://www.cbc.ca//cerb-emergency-benefits-trudeau-1.5532

Banks are taking applications for the Canada Emergency Business Account today and the rumour is its super easy and can be a real life line for small businesses. This is a $40,000 interest-free (until December 31, 2022), government guaranteed loan to help pay for operating costs that can't be deferred as a result of COVID 19. $10,000 (25%) of the $40,000 loan is eligible for complete forgiveness if $30,000 is repaid on or before December 31, 2022. That equals free $$ from the government. Check your business banking provider for more details and to apply.

Very important announcement for my most important clients!! I'm getting as many questions about this important issue as the CERB these days. Yes! The Easter Bunny is considered an essential service worker and will be permitted to deliver chocolate as per usual. Thank you to Premiere Ford and Mayor Tory for providing this comfort to my little one :)

And AIr Canada is hiring back about 16K workers under the federal wage subsidy program, which is an example of a large company who is recognizing the value of that program. Interestingly, I read that Tim Hortons has said they will not utilize the wage subsidy because they have enough cash in the bank to cover corporate head office salaries for the next while.
