The International Day of Eliminating Violence against Women is truly important to us here at CAP as indigenous women suffer from violence at a rate much higher than the average women (2.7 times higher). They are also "12 times more likely to be murdered or missing than any other women in Canada"(more on that in the MMIW final Report Vol.1a). Violence against Indigenous women and girls can no longer be ignored. We must address the current systems and practices that normalize this violence. Systemic discrimination perpetuates the crisis of violence against Indigenous women and girls. A project highlighting the systems of discrimination and how they contribute to MMIWG will be released early in 2021. For now, please enjoy the video commemoration put together by the United Nations.

Amazing news has just been released regarding off-reserve Indigenous people of Canada. "The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal orders that First Nations children without status resident off-reserve who are recognized by their Nations for the purposes of Jordan's Principle are eligible for services/products. Importantly, when a Nation recognizes a child it is for Jordan's Principle only. Jordan's Principle is NOT a fixed funding pot so the funding pool grows as needed. First Nations get $ to help with the recognition process. No more limiting Jordan's Principle to the Indian Act."
