A few weeks back I spoke on how Carbohydrates are not necessary. Your body functions off of glucose for energy, or ketones if you’re deep into ketosis (another day discussion). How can your body function on glucose if it’s not eating carbohydrates? Well, that happens through gluconeogenisis. Gluconeogenisis is when protein and fat are broken down to provide energy for the body. A common misconception is that this process happens whenever you consume too much protein. It is a... DEMAND driven process rather than SUPPLY driven. That means your body goes through the process when it’s needed. So, eat your protein. Prioritize your protein and enjoy the fat that comes with it. In the future, we will talk about ketosis and the theory that the body can only digest 30g of protein per meal (which is not true). Happy Sunday, Friends!

Carbohydrates are not required for the body to function. However, that does not mean you should never eat them. Certain people can handle a higher intake due to their job, exercise intensity or the sport they play. Others would do much better at a low or very low carbohydrate intake to help improves areas such as skin concerns, joint pain, sleep patterns, etc. Find your tolerance. Improve your help. Tuesday Tip : Digestion should not hurt or be painful/uncomfortable. If you’re in a state when you feel off after a meal, and your stomach is talking to you, reassess what you’re eating. Start with a small trial, and eliminate that food from your diet. See if it makes a difference. Tuesday Tip: Prioritize protein in your diet. It is the most satiating macronutrient you can have. Try and achieve this through wholesome animal products such as beef, chicken, fish, etc. There are many sources of protein available, but choosing sources in their natural form will be the most beneficial to you and your body. Tip of the day: Carbohydrates are NOT an essential macronutrient. Does that mean people shouldn’t ingest them? No, not necessarily. Carbohydrates are overly consumed by most people. Majority of people would be much better at a lower carbohydrate intake and a higher protein intake. Now, there are cases where carbohydrates can come in handy depending on your job, activity level, physique goals, etc. Avoiding carbohydrates especially those combined with high fat foods will prov...ide your body with many beneficial changes. Increase your protein intake and decrease your carbohydrate intake (dependant on individual) is a great way to better improve your metabolic health and body composition. But what about glucose being our main energy source? Your body can convert protein and fat to glucose when it’s needed. Happy Tuesday Tip, Everyone.

Nothing pretty about it. Dinner tonight consists of Salmon, Avocado, and some Bell Peppers. Sauce is Soya Sauce, Garlic, and Olive Oil. Topped with lots of Himalayan Pink Salt. As I try and get a bit leaner for the summer, I’m adjusting my diet. I’m keeping mostly whole foods in my diet. Using a lot of salt and magnesium to help with my electrolytes during this transition. As we approach the warmer weather months here in Southern Ontario, many are starting to think about the "beach body." Everyone wants to look good when enjoying the pool/beach/outdoors. There are a few things to remember when trying to achieve that desired look; Calories matter. First and foremost, calorie intake is of importance. If you're wanting to lose some "weight", control your portions. Next, ensure your protein intake is adequate. Protein is such a valuable macronutrie...nt and it should be at the forefront of every meal. Stay hydrated. Hydration is very important, especially if you're starting to lose some weight. Keep your exercise sessions brief but intense. Try and get good quality sleep. Those are just a few things to focus on if you're wanting to improve your physique. Canada is releasing their new Food Pyramid. There are some positives that I think everyone should follow. Eat less processed food is a big one. The more whole food you can eat, the better you'll feel. Other points I'm a fan of are reading your labels, being mindful of what you're eating, and watching your portion sizes. What is important, as it will differ from person to person, is base what your eating off of how you feel. If you are constantly feeling bloated or having tro...uble focusing, take a step back and review your diet. The food we eat plays a major role in how we perform, how we sleep, how we look, and how we think. What works for you, might not be what works for someone else. It took a couple of reps for Spike to find his groove on... such a unique movement but once their it hits the glutes hard. A common misconception with weight training is that if women do it, they will become big and bulky. This is not true. There are a few factors which limit that with the big one being the amount of testosterone they have or can produce. Today, my client told me something very powerful and something I am very proud of. She gets married this year, and recently tried on the dress she purchased awhile ago. She now needs to make some alterations to it due to her awesome success. She said, "the number on the scale hasn't changed much, but my clothes fit much differently." This is something I've spoke on before, and am excited to say that with some proper nutritional guidance and heavy resistance training she has improved her body composition. Any way of eating you choose should not solely be based on how it effects the number on the scale. Many factors go into a healthy way of eating. Think of your long term health. For example, if you know something makes you bloated or gives you inflammation in your joints, it is probably best to avoid that food. Avoiding it may not necessarily effect how much you weigh, but it will improve your overall health. How you look, perform, feel, sleep and think should all be considered when choosing what to eat and what not to eat. The summer is here, so enjoy it to the best of YOUR capabilities. If you're finding yourself always in a state of hunger, here are a few ideas to try and curve that feeling. 1) Drink water - This can never be understated. Water is essential, and often times people will eat because they are bored, yet the real reason is sometimes a case of dehydration. 2) Whole Foods - Your body craves nutrition. If all it is being fed is food derived of sugar and fillers, it will continue to send hunger signals to your head... 3) Occupy yourself - Try and keep busy. If you can find something that occupies your mind wether it be work, exercise, reading, or anything that will take the thought of food out of the equation for a short time, do it. It is when we become sedentary that we start to eat more than we may need. I will always be a firm believer that a diet based around whole foods, healthy fats, some leafy greens, and lots of exercise is a terrific approach to a healthy, happy body. This morning I had the pleasure of teaching a Health and Fitness Class at a local elementary school. I put the intermediate students through a gym class where they performed some body weight exercises, teaching them about proper form and muscles being worked. We then took them back to the classroom where we covered some basics regarding nutrition. We talked about Calories, Sugar, the importance of Sleep/Water, and how to control energy levels. The kids were absolutely fantast...ic, and very attentive. Big Thank You to my good friend Tara Cronkwright on allowing me this opportunity. Being able to teach kids about proper health and well being from an early age should have a huge impact in the long term. It's never too early to learn. Stay Strong, Friends.

#Repost @connorlangpap (@get_repost) These are the last results of my InBody examine. I tried this about about 1 month ago. I will get an exam done once a month during this lean bulk season I'm in. I expect to see some increase in body fat, but going to try and keep it at a very slow pace. The Segmental Lean Development shows the muscle balances between limbs are almost identical. This will help in a wide variety of areas. My friend @erik_mckay of No Bull has a few videos... discussing why this is important. Keeping balanced both in sport and life is very important for long term health and well being. Having trouble sticking to a plan or diet? Try circling a date on the calendar, or setting a reminder in your phone. These little tricks will help you stay on track with goals you hope to reach.
