#WallStreetJournal The 10-Point. Looking back on #2018 This season offers a time of reflection on the past 12 months and preparation for the year to come. It was another hectic year of change in which events flew by at a pace that was alternately stimulating and exhausting. The U.S. economy had one of its strongest years in decades, but the stock market lost ground and grew volatile. Trade disputes crystallized around U.S. concerns about China. Worries about technology, priv...Continue reading

Twitter Facebook Email Feedback Hardvard Business Review #HBR ... #TheManagementTip Know Your Idea, Audience, and Objective Before Giving a Speech You need to have three things clear in your mind before giving a speech: your main idea, your audience, and your objective. Start preparing by focusing on your idea: Why are you the right person to deliver this talk? What unique perspective can you offer? Then, consider who will be in your audience and craft your talk with them in mind. For example, if you’re speaking on a small panel, you can frame your remarks in more intimate, personal terms. If you’re at a conference for professionals, you can use technical terms. Speaking the same language as your listeners increases the odds that they will understand and be inspired by you. And finally, make sure you’ve pinpointed your objective. Maybe you want to get the audience to donate to a worthy cause, or spread the word about the importance of your topic. Whatever your goal is, it will inform your preparation and delivery. ***Adapted from To Give a Great Presentation, Distill Your Message to Just 15 Words, by Tricia Brouk #cjz

Five #hottest Done #Deals of 2018 Western Investor's most-read #commercialrealestate transaction profiles Tanya Commisso done deal composite ... Similar to last year’s most-read Done Deals, the 2018 transaction portfolios that drew the most clicks to our site are properties with potential for residential real estate development. Land parcels outside of the Vancouver core proved popular, with the cities of Coquitlam, Mission and Squamish making the cut. The most-read sale, however, took place outside of B.C. Here is our annual countdown of WesternInvestor.com's five most popular Done Deals of 2018. 5. Surrey multi-family development site sold for $36.35M The first Done Deal to make the list was published just this month and is one of the year’s priciest transactions on our site. The two-parcel property totals 24 acres and sold for more than three times it’s assessed value of $8.22 million. 4. Large-scale Coquitlam trailer park sold for $38M This Maillardville trailer park is the most expensive transaction to make our most-read list. At 30.37 acres, it’s also the biggest in size. 3. #Downtown Squamish hotel sold for $4.45M This 24-unit hotel property includes an attached liquor store and restaurant, built in 1910. The C4 zoning allows for commercial and mixed-use development up to six storeys. 2. #Mission townhouse development site sold for $4M above assessed value This nearly five-acre site is our second most-read Done Deal profile of the year, offering a sizable parcel of land for designated townhouse development. The property sold for more than four times its assessed value of $1,067,4000. 1. #Edmonton residential development site sold for $9M Our most-viewed story of the year is an Edmonton sale of several properties totaling 45,800 square feet, located near MacEwan University, North Saskatchewan River and the Brewery District. Tanya is a recent graduate of #Langara College's journalism program and spent a summer freelancing for The Burnaby NOW and The Record, following a reporting internship with the publications. She joins Western Investor as an editorial assistant. Very much a millennial, she sees the irony in writing about real estate she will likely never be able to afford.
