Everyone, I hope you are keeping well and staying safe while COVID-19 runs its course. Recently I developed this collection of websites and legal resources for the construction industry. If you know anyone who might benefit from it, please consider sharing. Also, if you have come across any helpful legal information you would recommend adding to the list, please let me know.... #covid19 #construction #law https://covid19.construction/

On April 3, 2020, Ontario updated its list of construction workplaces considered "essential". All other non-essential workplaces must close as of today, April 4, 2020 while the emergency COVID-19 regulation remains in effect. The list is here: 27. Construction projects and services associated with the healthcare sector, including new facilities, expansions, renovations and conversion of spaces that could be repurposed for health care space. 28. Construction projects and servi...ces required to ensure safe and reliable operations of, or to provide new capacity in, critical provincial infrastructure, including transit, transportation, energy and justice sectors beyond the day-to-day maintenance. 29. Critical industrial construction activities required for, i. the maintenance and operations of petrochemical plants and refineries, ii. significant industrial petrochemical projects where preliminary work has already commenced, iii. industrial construction and modifications to existing industrial structures limited solely to work necessary for the production, maintenance, and/or enhancement of Personal Protective Equipment, medical devices (such as ventilators), and other identified products directly related to combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. 30. Residential construction projects where, i. a footing permit has been granted for single family, semi-detached and townhomes ii. an above grade structural permit has been granted for condominiums, mixed use and other buildings, or iii. the project involves renovations to residential properties and construction work was started before April 4, 2020. 31. Construction and maintenance activities necessary to temporarily close construction sites that have paused or are not active and to ensure ongoing public safety. https://www.ontario.ca/page/list-essential-workplaces

Did you know that in July 2019, Toronto had more cranes in the sky than New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle and Boston combined? Toronto is growing rapidly, creating opportunities of all kinds in the construction and real estate industry. #construction #realestate #constructionlaw

Really enjoyed attending this Toronto Lawyers’ Association event the other night. I saw a few old friends and met a few new ones. Apart from enjoying a good conversation, I make a steady effort to build relationships to other legal professionals so I can refer friends and clients when they need a specialist. These days with the complexity inherent in most areas of law, very few lawyers can do everything. My specialty is resolving disputes using the courts, arbitration, medi...ation, or negotiation, especially in the construction industry. If you think you may need a lawyer, consider reaching out to me as I may know someone who can help.

The start of a new chapter. Very happy to announce that I have joined Glaholt LLP's Toronto office as an associate lawyer practicing in construction law. I am beyond grateful for the three years I spent at Miller Thomson LLP practicing law with a phenomenal team. At Glaholt LLP my practice will be focused exclusively on construction-related legal issues for a number of industry stakeholders across Canada and internationally. Glaholt LLP advises on dispute resolution and con...tract-related issues for developers, owners, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, property managers, insurers, condominium corporations, and bonding brokerages, among others. As always, I will continue to build strong relationships with other specialists to refer my network to the right lawyer. Please send me a message if you are in Toronto and would like to connect.

Thank you to everyone who came out to last night’s Uptown Social at Miller Thomson LLP Vaughan. If you have the chance, I recommend coming to see for yourself the opportunities and growth happening in Vaughan. The event was in partnership with the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) and generously sponsored by MNP LLP, FTI Consulting, Miller Thomson and Soma Medical.... As part of the OBA’s Young Lawyers’ Division, I really enjoyed hosting professionals here from different backgrounds and regions. I hope last night was the start of more than a few great relationships. For those of you in York Region, what types of events would you like to see more of?
