If you are in need of one-time financial assistance for basic needs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be eligible to receive assistance from a limited fund in your community, thanks to the leadership of your local government. The Local Immigration Partnership would like to share the following updates: Last week, the Ontario Ministry of Health announced new measures to ensure residents wouldn’t be discouraged from seeking screening or treatment for COVID-19. The Ministry decided to waive the 3 months waiting period for OHIP coverage. The province also committed to cover the cost of COVID-19 services for uninsured people who do not meet the criteria for OHIP coverage (see the Ontario Ministry of Hea...lth website: https://news.ontario.ca//ontario-expands-coverage-for-care). This measure will allow immigrants, including new permanent residents to get tested and/or access treatment. The Local Immigration Partnership is also posting important COVID-19 resources and updates on its portal homepage: https://immigration.simcoe.ca/ (see screenshot of homepage). We will be updating this webpage frequently.
