We have switched again to Zoom training 3 times a week. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm to 8pm and Saturday from 3pm to 4pm. Last day of training for 2020 at Barrie Kyokushin Karate, just before the province mandated a new lockdown for 28 days. Paulo has learned the most important lesson I have thought: Respect. 9 years ago, a 14 years old shy boy with the weirdest haircut walked in and asked if he can train with us. First I said no, but he promised to work hard and earn his place. Since then Paulo had ups and downs but eventually he always managed to find his way back on the mats. The Karate Man. So cool! To honor my students for their commitment and dedication during these tough times, I've decided to participate in the last Kata competition organized by the USA IFK. Those who follow our activities know that we always have a great team and we always get good results. Our team has been participating in all events in North America with great success. No different now during the pandemic we are participating in all virtual events.... To challenge myself , I've decided to perform a Kata on the beach nearby my house, but I wanted to film just one Kata without warm up or any kind of preparation. I arrived at the beach, quickly changed and set up the camera. I measured the distance to make sure I fit in the frame and I did one Kata. There was a family with four kids playing in the sand and when I started doing my Kata one of the kids yelled: The Karate Man, so cool! It put a smile on my face, a smile that I didn't show because I was doing the Kata . Maybe, just maybe one of those kids will start practicing martial arts because of this. I know that when I was a kid something like this would have impressed me. I will continue to inspire my students and everyone who is following my activities and I hope people will stay active and healthy and overcome this pandemic. Osu! Sensei Steve.
