After some fun and productive conversations as a #team over the past few days we are getting closer to achieving our goal of reopening! We are consciously slowing down and taking the time needed to create a proper #health and #safety plan. We want to ensure that all the necessary procedures are in place before gradually and slowly reopening. 1 : Along with ‘decorating’ the clinic in health related signage, we are waiting on the arrival of PPE ,... approved disinfectants, and sneeze guards . We are also working hard to redesign and improve our space to make things super fresh and clean for your return 2 & : This may be the most complex step. Each therapist has to determine IF they can return to work - there are childcare considerations, government support, and personal/family risk to think about. And for those who can return, we are working diligently to create a schedule that will reduce the likelihood of clients crossing paths. There are also mandatory online courses that RMTs need to complete as well as in-clinic training for each retuning staff and therapist. 3 : Each therapist is compiling a list of essential cases, clients who had appointments during the temporary clinic closure and clients who on our booking waiting list. These clients will be contacted in priority sequence 4 : Once we have completed steps 1-3 we will be in touch with you to let you know how you can book. If you haven’t already, make sure you add yourself to our booking waitlist by emailing us at [email protected] 5 - : Considering the province is still in Phase One, our motto is #slowandsteady. Only a few RMTs are returning with limited hours during this phase. Clinic Update!! You may have heard the good news that the government order was recently updated permitting RMTs to Massage Therapy services. Yay!! And maybe that is why your here, checking out our feed for updates ... While we are all VERY excited, coming back to work is a big decision that each therapist will be making individually. And as a clinic, we will be taking the time to ensure that our that all of the operational policies and procedures set out by the CMTO and the Ministry of Health are in place prior to opening. Over the next couple days we will be determining what a 'gradual re-opeing' looks like and will decide on a start date. ! Until things are in place we will NOT be accepting any new bookings. If you are wanting to inquire about an appointment, please email us and we will add you to our booking waitlist. One of our team members will contact you when we are ready to re-open as all clients will need to be screened prior to booking to help determine booking eligibility. We will also be implementing government directives by limiting the number of in person visits, reducing the number of therapists per shift and giving booking priority to essential cases. We will do our best to accommodate everyone in time but ask for patience as we work out all the details We will continue to update you as things unfold. Functional brain imaging studies show that changes take place in many areas of the brain involved in regulating #emotions and stress during a #massage. But until we can massage you again, here are 4 solid ways you can help your body better manage stress: 1. Sleep Tight - Your body replies on sleep to repair both mentally and emotionally from the day. Aim to get 8 hours or more a night. 2. Eat Your Veggies - When under stress it’s easy to grab for comfort foods first, but what your body really needs are adrenal supporting foods that are high in Vitamin C, Vitamin B and Magnesium. Try incorporating vitamin C rich foods like bell peppers, citrus, and strawberries into your diet. Eating avocados, chicken, and nuts can help you get necessary B vitamins. And improve your magnesium intake with black beans, salmon, raspberries, and figs. 3. Move Your Body - Exercise is one of the most important things you can do to combat stress and it most definitely does not have to be strenuous. In fact, if your are regularly under stress, causing additional physical stress to your body can suppress your #immunesystem. Instead of pounding the pavement or doing high intensity #cardio, try #stretching or strengthening exercises, a 15-30 minute #walk, #yoga or #pilates. 4. At a cellular level something #powerful is #tamed and changed within us when we recognize and identify our #emotions. The past couple months have been quite the emotional rollercoaster ride where I’ve experienced all the feelings of the rainbow. What I have found most helpful is to take the time to acknowledge the comfortable and uncomfortable feelings, give them a name, and write them down. ... I ask myself what am I feeling, and what I am feeling about that feeling. I ask what I am #sad about, #happy about, #angry about, and #anxious about, and then I check in with my body to see where I’m feeling tension or #stress. I am realizing the importance of this practice at it helps build emotional intelligence allowing me better manage my emotions when it comes to dealing with stress or conflict. These amazing cinnamon #oatmeal #pancakes are thanks to our neighbourhood friends at @higherhealthcentre Recipe to follow... If you make a batch we love to see a pic and don’t forget to tag us and HHC! @continuumwellness RECIPE for Cinnamon Oatmeal Pancakes 3 cups Oats (rolled) 1 tsp Baking Powder 1 Tbsp Cinnamon 1 Egg 1 1/2 cups Unsweetened Almond Milk 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil (divided) 1 In a food processor, process the rolled oats until it creates a flour-like consistency. Add the baking powder and cinnamon and pulse to combine. 2 Add the egg, almond milk and half of the coconut oil to the oat mixture and process until combined. 3 Add the remaining coconut oil to a large skillet and place over medium heat. Once hot, pour the batter into skillet the to form one pancake about 3-inches wide. 4 Once small holes begin to appear in the surface of the pancake, flip over. Cook each side approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Repeat until the batter is finished. 5 Top the pancakes with maple syrup, nut butter, seeds, or berries. Enjoy! NOTES: Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to five days. Freeze for up to two months. Reheat by cooking in a pan with oil on medium heat or pop in the toaster if frozen. See more

I am strong because a strong woman raised me. I am very fortunate to have been raised by a strong woman and to have come from a lineage of strong women. My mom and grandmothers raised families while enduring many challenges and showed grace and strength through it all.... During this challenging time I have been reflecting on this strength and leaning into it, both a #mom and a #businessowner. This Mother’s Day will be very different for many of us as the physical distancing measures may keep us from spending face to face time with our Moms. Now pause and spend a couple of moments in the state of fullness. Hold your breath IN. Notice how that feels.... I often talk about the concept of constant gathering. We’re constantly in a state of gathering more. Constantly accumulating. Consuming. Eating. Intaking. To accumulate and hold on becomes easier than to release. Now think of the #breathexercise we just did. Where in your life are you accumulating and holding onto stale air? Stale relationships? Stale ideas? Stale beliefs? Stale identities? Where in your body are you holding onto things that are no longer serving you? If you are feeling upper body tension, chest pain, neck and shoulder issues, some of if may be because you are holding onto ‘stale air’ that is not longer needed in your life. You have permission to #letitgo. It takes up a lot of your energy and it might even be adding extra weight on your body. Here is something you can do to get started: 1. Do 10 minutes of breath work. Simply focus on your breath, #inhale fully and #exhale fully and consciously 2. Then ask yourself these questions and journal them. What relationships in my life feel completely draining of my energy? What about my work feels heavy? Am I doing what I love? What’s my main motivation for doing what I do? Purposeful relaxation does the mind and body good. There are a lot of changes happening at the moment and the pressure of needing to be more productive and doing it all is adding to the #stress and #anxiety. Any parents out there trying to juggle work, mom life and taking on the role of a teacher, baker and candlestick maker?? ... Now more then ever giving yourself #permission to #relax and #rest is extremely important. Rest doesn’t have to mean a bubble bath or taking a nap. But it could be if that’s your thing! It could simply be an activity that allows your brain to take a break from work, media, schooling, or from whatever is feeding into the feelings of #overwhelm and #stress. And what works for one may not work for another. For example, cooking is very relaxing for some but I find cooking stressful! My happy, restful place is laying in the sun feeling the heat warm my face, being in nature, or reading books to my kids (that is if they sit still). So find what works for you. Here are some of our therapists favourite ways to rest: - Soaking in the sun - #meditation - Reading a book - #journaling - Active relaxation like a walk outdoors or #yoga - #aromatherapy - Warm bath or sauna - Baking or cooking - Being in the garden - Snuggling with my cat - Colouring Let us know what you like to do to rest during this time See more
