Weather. Yes, weather. Don't let it keep you from a warm evening of dancing. We're Calgarians, we're made of sterner stuff. It's only a bit of snow.

There has been a bit of discussion around whether to have three sets of 4 dances, or two sets of six dances. Two sets of six dances is standard in the Contra dance community. It results in dances that end a bit earlier, and have more focus on dancing and less focus on socializing (which helps the shy people who are just there to dance). You can also get a bit more flow with six dances. But it means that if you get tired it's a long way to the break. Some options would be: 1) ...Keep things the way they are 2) Keep the 3 sets, but make the breaks a bit shorter. (Eg: "We'll take a 10 minute break and be back at 7:45" 3) Try out two sets of six dances. We can always go back if we make a change and it does't work, but we'd be curious about people's feedback before we try anything.

Contra dancing is a great way to travel. There are contra dance weekends in many major cities, where incredible bands, top-notch callers, and hundreds of dancers get together for an entire weekend of dancing. It's an amazing feeling to spend an entire weekend looking at a new smiling face every 30 seconds! A dance weekend is a great excuse to visit a place like BC, Portland or Seattle and it'll take your dancing to an entirely new level.
