There is still time to apply for the PHCHF Diversity Scholarship - March 31, 2021, is the deadline. Need a nudge to apply? Here is an update from Una Isherwood ...one of the 2020 Scholarship recipients. "I just wanted to send you an email and let you know how much I appreciate the support from you and everyone else at PHCHF. I love my program and I am passionate about what I do, you have all been an amazing help to me. I've grown up in a co-op and so much of my life has been surrounded by them. I've always been interested in how they work, and ever since I was able to attend CYL, I've been doing more and more research about co-ops and how amazing and diverse they are. I know how much the co-op sector is struggling right now with gaining youth voices and engaging young people. Since I began at Sault College, I've been engaging more and really enjoy public speaking and outreach. In fact, I've been lucky enough to volunteer to show bugs to kids and getting them excited about creepy crawlies! So, I wanted to let you know that if there are any programs, events, or anything like that where I can help educate and inspire people to engage more with co-ops that I would love to be a part of it!" Thanks, Una! We love to hear how our scholarship recipients are doing.
Breaking: 57 new affordable co-op homes will be developed to serve low- and middle-income households in Halifax. The development is possible thanks to funding f...rom Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Housing Nova Scotia, and the Halifax Regional Municipality. We were delighted to be part of the announcement today of $1.5M through the Federal Lands Initiative in support of these 57 units of new co-operative housing in Halifax, along with Andy Fillmore. Visited cocreate community and city vegetable garden by Supawut’s Jaibaan Group in Chiangmai last week. It is a nice vegetable garden on land slightly more t...han an acre (3 rai) for urban poor communities and various city groups replacing former garbage dump as joint effort to deal with problems from an impact of Covid 19. Communities and civic groups in the city have been working together to plant, take care as well as producing food from vegetables which will not only help save some of their daily food expenses but also demonstrate a city collective urban food security and public spaces movement. The project has been supported by the province, municipality, CODI, civic groups, schools, rural and urban community networks and private sectors See more
