It came out of left field. I started crying almost immediately. A DM from McDermott Images: "I write a weekly community post on my blog where I feature people who inspire me and my own photography. I wrote about you this week."... (Click the link below to read what had me bawling like a baby She reviewed six of my photos, one of them could be you!) In a time where we're constantly chasing the algorithm and the likes and comments can often feel superficial, it feels so incredible to be recognized this way. Tara, thank you again, from the bottom of my heart. Coming from someone whose unique vision and creativity I admire endlessly, I can't even articulate how much this means. I love your dedication to building community, and it's such a great honor to be a part of yours. Friends, give the talented McDermott Images a follow. Then go tell someone about much how they inspire you. I know I'm going to. https://mcdermottimages.ca/2021/02/22/the-spark/
"We want to be together at the end of the day." Coming home to each other at the end of a long day, and enjoying an Old Fashioned (their favourite cocktail) together. Planning a wedding that’s intimate and intentional, where the only thing that matters when it’s over is that they’re together. And of course, simply sharing a life, for a lifetime. Shannon and Fred's intimate, family-focused wedding at Hearth Restaurant (the site of their first date) is now blogged!... http://copperbluedesign.ca/intimate-saskatoon-wedding-at-h/ Dress: UnVeiled Dress Co. "She leaves a little glitter wherever she goes." No really, she does. My car seat was covered with it when she got out. Sand too. But a little vacuuming was a small price to pay for Mackenzie's adventurous grad photos. From exploring an abandoned farm to swimming in the river (both 100% her idea!), she was up for doing whatever it took for some kickass and unique grad photos. Check out her whole session on my blog! http://copperbluedesign.ca/outlook-graduation-photos-macke/
"As we stood on the bridge watching the sunset, he asked me to name all of our memories together from the bridge. After, he asked if I would like to add another one - at which point he proposed!" Taking it back to the place it all began for Jillian and Thomas' Saskatoon engagement session: the iconic Broadway Bridge! These two brought so much fun energy to their session and you can now see it all on my blog. http://copperbluedesign.ca/downtown-engagement-pictures-in/
Hot tip for making your grad photos unique and personal: incorporate your passions! Cars, sports, music, dance, your pet chickens (ok I haven't done that yet but I 100% wouldn't say no) - what do you love? Show it off!
2020 was certainly a year full of surprises. Like when Taylor Swift surprised her fans by releasing "evermore", and then I surprised myself by discovering that I'm actually a Taylor Swift fan (which, if you know my musical tastes at all, is pretty surprising) What was a GOOD surprise you had in 2020?
This isn't the Christmas anyone expected. But like with everything else this year, it's giving us the opportunity to slow down, to be intentional, to reflect and be grateful. Happy holidays, friends - I hope you find joy in the quieter moments this festive season
Did you hear that Elk Ridge Resort is back up and running under new ownership, and booking weddings for 2021? So excited to be back up at Waskesiu this summer!
For the first time in I don't even know how many years (possibly ever?), I'll have all my galleries out before Christmas I've got my eyes on the prize (aka the couch ) - I ordered a new tablet for some tv binging, I have a good book that I'm saving, all that's left is all the snacks I'm gonna need! How are your Christmas preparations going?
Confession time. If I've taken a photo of you with your horse, I was absolutely terrified. I wanted to be excited because you're obviously an outdoorsy animal lover and therefore the best kind of person, but I was basically crapping myself. Don't get me wrong, I think horses are gorgeous creatures... that I prefer to admire from a very safe distance, preferably with a fence in between So when Leisa and Zac told me they have a lot of horses, I was like "well I guess this is how it ends" I shot this portion of their engagement session with a horse nose in my ear most of the time. They were curious, sweet, and gentle, and gave me no choice but to love them. Horses, we're good now
The hoarfrost outside my office window was so pretty today. Not gonna lie though, I'd much rather be crouching in an itchy field of weeds like this one, hoping I wore enough sunscreen. Winter might be here but it's always going to be summer on my feed! Spent the weekend working on album and print orders, and editing the last wedding in my queue. More of the same for this week - I can finally see the light Have a good week friends, stay warm and safe xo
I got up at 4:30 this morning to edit. That's farrrr too early Normally I grumble if I have to get out of bed before 9 on the weekend, but I couldn't sleep for some reason. Now I'm well into my third pot of coffee. Hoping to get a lot done today - if I don't crash ... What about you, are you an early bird or a night owl?
This snowy weather is bringing back allllll the memories of Emily and Taylor's fun and beautiful wedding day, one year ago today! Wishing you two the happiest of anniversaries, the first of so many to come
Live for the moments that you want to hold on to. Amanda and Ty, just married.
These lush green days of summer feel like a million years ago already, don't they? I've been quiet on the socials these days but working hard behind the scenes to wrap up my 2020 editing. I have so much to share but hey, winter is long, plenty of time! Hope you are all doing well - have a great week and if you're in Saskatchewan, don't forget to vote tomorrow
Voting closes tomorrow <3 Thanks for all your support!
It's so hard to tell the story of such a sweet wedding day in just 10 images, but here are a few favourites. Happy first anniversary, Teresa and Willie <3
Dawn told me that while everyone was frantically buying pandemic toilet paper, James came home with this new truck instead! It was a fun addition to make their engagement photos extra special. This image made a beautiful large glossy metal print which now hangs in their new home
Sneak peek for Leisa and Zac, who are getting married next June on their beautiful farm just outside of PA! They had their engagement session at home, and there were so many beautiful and interesting places to shoot (rolling hills with horses, a riding arena, old fences at sunset...!). At the end of the session, Zac suggested these crabapple trees, and they were perfect for our last sweet frames of the evening So great to finally meet you two, can't wait for June!
These two brought ALLLLL the energy to their engagement session. Laughing, singing, dancing, theatrical movie quoting - these two have a zest for life that is infectious, and there is so much spirit in their love for each other.
WHAAAAT! THANK YOU so much for your nominations! I made the ballot for the Planet S Best of Saskatoon in TWO categories!! You can vote for me at https://planetsmag.com/best-of-saskatoon-2020! And while you're there, be sure drop some love for your other local fave businesses! It means the world to me to be recognized alongside some of my incredibly talented colleagues I feel like I've won just by being here, and I can't thank you enough for the support!
Throwing it back to the start of summer, to light breezes on warm evenings with firey prairie sunsets. I refuse to believe summer is only a memory already. Are you a diehard summer lover like me? Or are you enjoying this change of season?
Whoa what?! I've heard from a few people that they've nominated me for best wedding or best portrait photographer! If I get enough nominations I'll be on the ballot for voting! I've never asked for nominations before but they close at 5pm today so I figured what the heck! If you enjoyed your experience as a client or if you just like my work, I'd be honored if you could take a second to nominate me in either category <3 Thank you so much! https://planetsmag.com/best-of-saskatoon-2020/
Oh hey it's Alyta, just dropping some sunshine into your feed on this gorgeous fall day! How are you taking advantage of this beautiful weather?
Class of 2020, that's a wrap! From epic portraits on football and soccer fields to chasing sunsets along the river, from exploring abandoned farmyards, old bridges and urban alleyways to rad cars on a parkade rooftop, you absolutely crushed it this year with your ideas and enthusiasm I know it wasn't the graduation you dreamed of, but I hope I could help make it special Be prepared to see your beautiful faces on my feed all winter because I have SO much more to share!
Samantha and Brenden dreamed of an elegant country wedding day surrounded by loved ones. Although their plans took some twists and turns this year, in the end they ended up with exactly that - and on the most beautiful autumn day too Congratulations you two and all the best as you continue this amazing journey together!
I know we're all saying it but... where the heck did summer go?! Already shooting my last wedding of 2020 tomorrow Hope you enjoy your long weekend - looks like we still have some summery weather coming our way! Also just one last reminder I can still squeeze in a couple more fall sessions, but after this weekend I won't be booking new dates until spring!
FALL SESSION AVAILABILITY: First off, I need to say a massive THANK YOU to all of this year's amazing clients. I fully expected to have a quiet summer. Instead, I photographed more grads than ever, and booked more weddings than were postponed I know you had a lot of hard decisions to make this year, so being a part of these moments is an extral special honor If you were thinking about fall photos, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I can squeeze in two or three more..., but I'm only taking bookings until the end of next week, and then that's it. I need to figure out when I can give myself some holidays Have a great weekend!
Oh hi! I'm Kevin! I'm new around here. I heard it was Dog Day or something, which seems weird because I'm pretty sure that's every day (well, at least since I moved in). I like ear scritches, long walks at sunset, and drinking from the garden hose. Thanks so much to Humboldt & District SPCA for taking such good care of me until I could find my forever home <3
As a wide receiver on St. Joe's senior boys football team, Kennedy dreamed of grad photos on the field. In a year where grads got a pretty raw deal, it was so special to bring this vision to life for her Thanks to Gordie Howe Sports Complex for helping to make this happen!
Katlyn and Nathan said I Do on a sunny hill overlooking the family acreage and a group of their nearest and dearest well-wishers. Although planning a wedding during a pandemic was a bit of a wild ride, nothing was going to get in the way of the meaningful celebration they'd always envisioned. Their sweet, emotional day came together so beautifully and was an honor to witness <3 Congratulations you two and enjoy your honeymoon roadtrip! #finallyboschmans
Celebrating Sheena and Dave's one year anniversary today! There were so many sweet moments during their intimate backyard wedding, especially with their four adorable kids who were such a big part of the day. It was hard to narrow it down to ten images so I guess I'll just have to do another post soon Happy anniversary you two!
Katlyn and Nathan are getting married on Saturday, in a beautiful outdoor wedding on the acreage she grew up on I didn't get a chance to share as many of their engagement photos here as I would have liked, so I just blogged a whole bunch of them instead! Congrats Katlyn and Nathan, I can't wait to document your day <3 http://copperbluedesign.ca/rural-saskatoon-engagement-phot/
Sneak peek for Mackenzie! You will recognize this beautiful soul from her casual grad photos last fall, and it was such a delight to finally have her back in front of my camera. We spent a fun evening exploring an abandoned farmyard and ending with a swim in the river. She'll be studying social work this fall and making a tremendous impact on people's lives Congratulations on your graduation Mackenzie!
Happy anniversary to Samantha and Curtis, married one year ago today under perfect blue skies in this place so dear to them
Sneak peek for Alyta, 2020 grad from Centennial Collegiate! She not only graduated during the pandemic but completed a nail tech course at the same time! Since then, she's been spending the summer working at the pool, where she loves teaching kids to swim. She's looking forward to studying nursing, but also to travelling and working overseas as soon as it's possible. Congratulations on your graduation, Alyta - so many adventures await you!
Amanda and Ty planned their wedding for this summer not in spite of COVID-19, but because of it. They'd been talking about marriage, but quarantining together sealed the deal that they were meant to be, and they couldn't wait. This past Sunday afternoon they celebrated with an intimate ceremony on the farm which has been in Amanda's family for over a century, adding to a history that now has a new chapter. Congratulations
Shannon and Fred are married! They celebrated last week with an intimate brunch wedding at Hearth Restaurant, where they had their first date. With their kids by their sides, close family and friends paid tribute with heartfelt impromptu speeches over a wonderful meal. A few refreshing raindrops during their formal photos were the perfect ending to this sunny, beautiful day. Congratulations, you two <3
Whoohoo it's Cindy and Rick's first anniversary! So fun reliving this special day, from the boat ride to their private island beach ceremony to a romantic sunset swim, and all of the moments in between. Such a memorable day that truly reflected the spirit of who these two are <3 Happy anniversary!
My wedding season finally starts this week!!! Kicking things off with Shannon and Fred's brunch wedding tomorrow, and then Amanda and Ty's intimate family farm wedding on Sunday! Some things about weddings are certainly looking different this year, but love stories carry on, and I can't wait to capture them <3 Bouquet: Florence + Flora
Happy first anniversary Haley and Garret! Hope your day is full of sunshine and laughter, just like your wedding day
Sneak peek for Dawn and James, who put their shitkickers on, hopped in the truck and headed out to the country for their engagement session Dawn was a bridesmaid at a wedding I photographed in 2018. It was so cool to hang out with her again and to meet James, and a total honor to capture these memories for them. Thank you for making the drive and for a super fun evening!
Terran got to borrow two badass cars for his session, one of which was this sweet 73 'Cuda He chose this image for his album at his image reveal the other night and it's going to look so great in print!
After dinner, Thomas asked Jillian to go for a walk along the Broadway Bridge. She wasn't dressed for the cold and didn't want to go, but he persisted. As they stood on the bridge watching the sunset, he asked her to name all of their memories together from the bridge. Then he asked if she would like to add another one - and he proposed. We returned to the Broadway Bridge for Jillian and Thomas' engagement photos, to the spot where it all happened, to make yet another memory
Following on from my last post, here are the images that placed in the top 10%! Haley and Garret placed in the top 6% in Wedding Couples (out of over 37,000 images - my highest EVER placement in this category!). Swipe through to see the rest! Two of my Chernobyl images placed in the top 5% and 8% in the Travel/Landscape category, and Ashley and Kyle (and Fletcher!) placed in the top 8% in Engagements/Couples. Pretty stoked with my results, which were up against over 561,000 other images! Thanks again to my amazing clients, I appreciate you so much <3
The results of the international photo contest I have been entering since 2017 came out while I was away! This image of Mackenzie is my highest scoring image, placing in the top 13% of the Seniors category (one of the biggest and toughest categories!). Swipe through to see the rest of my top 20% and 30% images and stay tuned for my top 10%! To be honest, I struggled with sharing these after discovering during the BLM protests that the company running this contest holds some pretty unacceptable attitudes. I will not be entering in the future or supporting any of their sponsors. But in the end I decided that I'm damn proud of these images, and wanted to share the results with the beautiful people who trusted me to create them
One of Caleb's images was featured over at Senior Style Guide on Instagram! And rightfully so - how great is his grad suit?! Here's another one from this same gem of a spot we found while wandering some of Saskatoon's back alleys for his urban grad session! Thanks Senior Style Guide for the feature!
Sneak peek for Kennedy, 2020 grad from St. Joe's! Don't be fooled by that Cinderella vibe - she's a wide receiver on the senior boy's football team, a future business lawyer, an aspiring skydiver, fearless and funny as heck too. Congratulations on your graduation Kennedy!
Beautiful Rachel and the last frame of the evening She chose this to be printed as both a wall canvas and a full spread in her grad album I can't wait to see it in print!
Sneak peek for Terran, class of 2020 grad from Marion Graham! He got to borrow not one but two rad cars for his session, one of which was this 2019 Stingray Wherever his future leads, it will undoubtedly involve cars! Congratulations on your graduation Terran, it was so fun to work with you!
My heart is with you, Jill and Tyler, on what should have been your wedding day. So glad you are able to make the best of it - enjoy the day making other special memories together in your favorite place <3
Sneak peek for Caleb: talented baseball and hockey player, and class of 2020 grad from Bishop James Mahoney! With dual passions for cars and carpentry, he's taking a well-deserved year off of school to work while deciding which career path to pursue. Congratulations on your graduation Caleb!
Happy first anniversary Shannon and Luke! Can't believe it's already been a year since this rainy, muddy, perfect day #marryingmccreary
Ashton is off to play NCAA soccer at Minot State this fall, so naturally we had to do some photos on the soccer field! This was one of her faves from her image reveal earlier this week.
Sneak peek for high school sweethearts Katlyn and Nathan, who met at summer camp and never looked back This session was a bit of a wild ride (literally!) - thank you for taking me to this amazing location! I'm so lucky to meet such fun and adventurous people and look forward to celebrating with you on the family acreage in August!
There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask "What if I fall?" Oh but my darling, What if you fly?... (Erin Hanson) So much gratitude to Reese for joining me on this beautiful evening last week and being so open to my ideas (and to Lisa - assistant extraordinare!). It felt so good to get out and just create
How I feel knowing that grad and wedding ceremonies can now go ahead!! Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone safe by continuing to follow the public health guidelines - let's keep that Saskatchewan curve flat so we can CELEBRATE!
Sneak peek for Rachel: photographer, animal lover, and class of 2020 graduate of Outlook High School! Congratulations on your graduation Rachel - with your hardworking ethic and your sweet, introspective personality, you are going to change lives
And so, the adventure begins! Graduation this year has definitely been a different journey than you'd imagined. All the more reason to celebrate what you've had to overcome by taking that dress on an adventure of its own! Where's your happy place - the lake, the farm, the beach, something completely different? Dream up a setting and let's make it happen!
#blackouttuesday #mutedbutlistening

Congratulations Ashton - you're so hardworking and driven, and are going to do so many amazing things!

So excited to be back at it and I can't wait to meet you all, class of 2020!
Some great tips over at Sask Ever After today if you need them <3
I'm seeing a huge push towards elopements this season. And that can be a great solution, for some couples. But I just wanted to say this: It's ok to postpone. It's ok to want to wait until your families can celebrate together, with all the hugs and happy tears, a shared meal and a glass raised to your love, a full dance floor all night long. It's ok to hold out for the day you dreamed of, surrounded by all the people you imagined sharing it with
It's the May long weekend!!! My hands-down favourite holiday because it means that summer is officially on the way! May long is going to look a little different for us this year, but at least the weather looks What are your long weekend plans? #staysafe

This last week or so has felt like a rebirth Everything's turning green, I'm booking and preparing for sessions, feeling optimistic - like things were kind of normal(ish) again. And then I'll hear from another couple whose wedding is on hold or will look so different than they dreamed, and it all comes crashing back down to earth. Still so many emotions, so much uncertainty (who's with me?). But there IS one thing I know for sure: I'll be doing whatever I can to make things extra special for all my clients when their time comes <3
POOF! COVID-19 is now gone forever! What is the first thing you would do? Bouquet: Michelle's Flowers
