Our entire province is now in a state of emergency to help contain the spread of COVID 19 and protect the public. We as nurses are preparing to go to war during this quiet period before the storm. As we prepare for the pandemic to wreak havoc in our country we have many fears. We fear that we do not have enough PPE to protect us. We fear we will get ill and not be able to look after our patients. We fear what will come of our hospital and our units during the next few weeks. ...We fear of what will come of our healthcare system when we will not be able to care for the amount of people who are about to become ill. We fear our staffing is already stressed and frequently short and that the amount of nurses we currently have is not enough. Many people in our country will succumb to death. We fear we will inevitably have to care for our colleagues and we are fearful we may even lose them as well. Our greatest fear? We fear we may infect our families. In order to protect ourselves and our families I have started a service business called Scrub Guard. Scrub Guard is a Toronto based antibacterial scrub uniform coating service for health care workers. The active ingredient present in our coating is copper oxide. Copper is a well known and proven broad-spectrum antibacterial element that possesses biocidal capabilities. Copper is able to kill 99.9% of bacteria in contact with it.
