Coppermoss Cottage and Retreat 26.01.2021

M. Simon Levin and I have been involved in putting together a wonderful exhibition at the SC Art Centre that looks at the role of artists in saving the last stands of our ancient forests. The exhibition and dialogues connect deeply to the values we hold at Coppermoss. We invite you to join us online next weekend for two dialogues looking at saving our ancient forests. Links are in the descriptions of each event. Information about the exhibition "Our Ancient Forests" can be found here: https://sunshinecoastartscouncil.com/our-ancient-forests/

Coppermoss will be opening up residency opportunities soon. Imagine being able to spend a week or two in this gem of a cottage. Residencies are Nov 6 - April 30. If you are interested in coming up, and are open to conversations about decolonization through the land, then visit www.coppermoss.ca for more details. Or send us a message and we will guide you through our brief application process.

I am looking forward to being part of this conversation on Friday. I'll be thinking through moss - their invitation to attentiveness, intimacy, and considerations of time, and how these might open up new ways of thinking about cultural practices. Maybe you can join us?

This is such an important and rich post. At the SCAC we are about to launch a 4 part workshop on Race Matters delving into the histories of whiteness in art, the legacies of terminology, and the crucial difference between post colonialism and decolonization in art. All in an attempt to start the difficult ground shifting work: https://www.articule.org//open-letter-to-artist-centres-mo

We are not unique or exempt in Canada, BC or even the Sunshine Coast. We have a responsibility to dismantle systemic and structural racism. Sometimes it begins by knowing the statistics. Thank you Rebecca Kneen for sharing this.
