Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association 13.03.2021

Happy New Year to all our CMHA members, As we leave the very challenging year of 2020 behind us, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for the extra effort and patience you have displayed while navigating the ever changing hockey landscape that COVID19 provides us. The compliance and consideration shown by our membership has been phenomenal. We all have pulled together to be able to keep our children playing this game we all love safely over the past few months. Th...ank you to all our volunteers, parents & players for their exemplary behaviour. I also wanted to take this opportunity to provide a brief update on our logo / branding process. Last year, the CMHA Executive Board voted unanimously to retire the Chiefs brand and start the transition to a new brand identity which reflects the values of our membership and the community we serve. We are a very diverse hockey association whose mission is to provide the children and young adults of Coquitlam with the opportunity to play recreational hockey in a safe, enjoyable, and challenging environment. Our PAC Chairperson, Nicole Darling is heading up a small team that has been working together to come up with options that we will roll out to the membership for involvement in early 2021. Nicole has secured a Creative Director from a prominent BC business who has volunteered his time and team to assist with some new branding concepts which we are looking forward to seeing. I personally want to thank you for your patience while we navigate our name change. We could not have foreseen all of the challenges a season of COVID19 would bring us or how much time it would consume of our volunteers. There are a number of steps involved and we want to make sure we are making every move correctly. We want our new logo and brand to last a lifetime, not a season, and this process could take up to a year to finalize. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind our members to please adhere to our current dress code and that this is not the time to develop your own logo for the remainder of the season. Please click the link below for CHMA's dress code policy, which continues to be in effect. https://cdn1.sportngin.com//CMHA_EQUIPMENT__DRESS_CODE___A Once again, thank you and wishing you all the very best for this New Year. On behalf of the Coquitlam Minor Hockey staff and Board of Directors I would like to wish all of our members, coaches and officials a wonderful holiday season. After many years of being part of our hockey community, it is so abundantly clear to me that hockey provides so many great memories and life lessons for all of us far beyond the scoreboard. Hockey is a sport that inspires us all in many different ways. The Directors of CMHA have always been inspired by the players and... their endless passion for the game, and by the amount of time our volunteers give back to the Association. This past year has been particularly challenging and I have personally been inspired at how everyone has pulled together working to keep our children on the ice. As the year 2020 comes to a close, we at CMHA would like to wish our families all the wonder and magic of the holiday season and a new year filled with peace and happiness. Take care and be safe. Update on Parent Spectators: As we now have a rising number of confirmed cases of COVID19 within our community, we have to be extra vigilant to make our team events as safe as possible to try and keep hockey going for our children as long as possible. The positive benefits for our children continuing with team sport and their physical exercise generally outweigh the risk but we need to try and minimize risk wherever possible. This means following the basics; hand saniti...zing, physically distancing, masks and staying home if you are unwell. This also means we are asking that parents do not attend the ice time unless it is absolutely necessary for your child for you to be there. From what we have learned, the risk to the children while they are on the ice is minimal but there is a high degree of risk coming from socializing. This means parents and players congregating at the rink, before, during and after the ice time. We are asking all of you to please have your children ready to go, with skate guards, and follow the direction of your Safety Ambassador. Please contact your division coordinator for further details and to advise if it is necessary for your child to have you attend their ice times. Thank you all for your cooperation in this challenging time. We know that it is disappointing to be so distant from your child while they are on the ice but remember it is not forever and you many more ice times in the future you can attend provided we stay safe now. Together in hockey.

Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association 31.10.2020

Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association is saddened to communicate the loss of one of our community. Marc Lalonde was a coach, a mentor, a leader and a friend to so many of us in CMHA and the whole Coquitlam Community. He was also a father, a husband, a brother and a key part of a family who is devastated by his loss. Our deepest condolences go to Aileen, Aidan, Devyn & Liam and the rest of the family and our hearts are holding Marc close. Please, if any of you need to reach o...ut, please do. Call a friend, call one of us, call the hotline. Please know that you are not alone. Marc fought publicly and vocally against the stigma of mental illness and only we can change that. Talk to someone. You are not alone. You are never alone. We are a message or a text or a phone call away. Marc leaves a great hole in the fabric of our community. His legacy will be remembered by many for a very long time. May he rest in peace. See more

Due to the current pandemic and Provincial Health Orders, we have determined that the CMHA Mentor / Jr Coach program will not be running this year. This decision was made in keeping with our first priority being the health and safety of our membership. We fully expect to be able to resume this program in 2021. Stay safe everyone!

If you have a scheduled game tonight outside of our CMHA facilities, please check with the Association to see if their facility is still open and the game is still on.

Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association 19.09.2020

Good afternoon, our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Henry, today announced increased restrictions for the Fraser and Coastal Health regions. These new Provincial Health Orders include new restrictions for indoor sports like hockey. Effectively immediately, all CMHA games are cancelled for at least 14 days.... Practices are suspended until Monday 9th - an update to this will be provided as soon as possible, as we are seeking clarification with respect to continuing practices. Please expect further updates - we are anticipating rapid changes to the facility guidelines and updated information from BC Hockey, PCAHA and Via Sport. Thank you for understanding that these measures are not just to conform to the Provincial Health Order, they are to keep our players, volunteers and all of their families safe. We are asking everyone to be patient and to continue to keep players home even with only minor symptoms. The entire board joins me in hoping that you and your families are safe and well, if you have any questions, we'll do our best to get your answers as quickly as possible.
