Corktown Toronto 13.11.2020

The Corktown Board is saddened to pass on the news that the person struck and killed this week at Mill and Cherry St. was Tricia Waldron. Tricia was a past CRBA Board Member and had just handed over Editor duties of the Corktown News in our most recent issue. Along with this she had spent the last 2 years advocating and raising funds for the new Anishnawbe Health Centre being built in Canary District. Our team is heartbroken about the news. We've lost a friend, a community ...leader and a passionate human. Since learning of this tragic situation, we've also seen dozens of community members come forward with well wishes and stories about Tricia. She was as kind as she was tough. Some of us will forever remember her capability to argue a point with the vigor of a Politician. Others will remember her passion and capability to create excitement around a project. All of us will remember her immeasurable giving spirit. Our team is currently planning the Winter issue of The Corktown News and we'll be dedicating a section to her. If you have any particularly fond memories that you'd like to share, email [email protected]. In the meantime, we will continue to publish your memories of Tricia on our social media channels. When we hear word of a memorial, we'll pass it on. Sincerely and with deep regret, - The Corktown Residents and Business Association Board of Directors

It's still patio weather so a few of our Board members took the chance to get outside and hang with Giuseppe at Fusilli Ristorante. Grab a glass of wine for the patio or takeout for home at this Corktown institution

Do you know about FoodShare? Read below to find out how you can help this incredible Toronto organization. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, they have: Delivered more than 10,800 Emergency Good Food Boxes in response to increased food insecurity... Distributed nearly 200,000 lbs of fresh produce Hired 59 casual workers to help distribute food boxes right to peoples' doorsteps With an additional 2,700+ boxes of fresh produce being delivered weekly, they see firsthand that the pandemic is disproportionately affecting some folks in our communities. By pulling together in solidarity, fresh food is on the table for many. But we need to keep pushing for a larger conversation about food justice. Please contribute to their efforts if you can: https://foodshare.net/

Enjoy the journey, the journey is the destination. And this journey has reached its final destination. We are proud to have served Corktown, Toronto an award wi...nning space, friendly and welcoming service and delicious coffee since 2015. It is now time to say goodbye Corktown. This journey has been filled with lots of highs (thanks NY Times and Architizer) and lately, lots of lows (thanks Covid-19). This is only farewell and not goodbye. Our last day of service at 514 King St. East is Sunday August 30. We are open daily from 8am to 1pm until then. Take care everyone and stay safe. xoxo
