Due to the recent Provincial Health Order, and to limit the potential social interactions that can take place on a weekly basis between church staff and church visitors, the church building will be closed effective next week with staff working remotely from their homes at least until December 7. If you'd like to connect with a staff member please see our Staff Page on our Church Website (www.cornerstonecrc.ca). We appreciate your understanding as we seek to ensure the health and safety of the Cornerstone staff as well as our church family members.
ADVENT 2020: We’re afraid. 2020 has seen the rise of a global pandemic, job loss, economic depression, overwhelming anger at so much from racial injustice to mask wearing to lockdowns and more. On top of that society as a whole seems more fractured and divided than ever before. And we haven’t even gotten around to all of the uncertainties and losses of just being a fallen human being in a fallen world. In the midst of all of this we need a season like Advent. Advent is a seas...on of waiting. Specifically, waiting on God’s promises to fully redeem, restore and recreate us, and all of creation. As we wait, we offer up our fears to God and hear God’s comfort in angel voices: Do not be afraid. Throughout our Advent season then, we’ll explore different passages throughout the Christmas story where the words, do not be afraid, are spoken. We’ll dig into what each characters particular fears might have been as they were told that they were chosen for a greater purpose. We’ll look at the many ways God’s promises of His presence were steadfast in times of doubt and confusion. Join us this Advent for Be Not Afraid. See more
Sunday, November 22, 2020 @ 10am: We will close out our Life of David sermon series by looking at one of the most famous stories in the Bible - David and Bathsheba. Our text will be 2 Samuel 11-12 (excerpts, but feel free to read the whole thing in advance). We’ll look at the pervasive power of sin, the sneaky subtleness of grace, and the soul-steadying certainty of forgiveness. We’ll also get to witness 3 Professions of Faith. Sunday, November 15, 2020 @ 10am: We’ll continue to look at The Life of David together and we’ll zero in on the story of the Ark of the Covenant coming back to Israel after it had been stolen by the Philistines from 2 Samuel 6:1-23. It’s a story that tells us that what life with a Holy and Sovereign God is like - that it’s often hard and demanding, but ultimately, it’s so good and freeing. Provincial Health Order and Church Services Clarification - November 7, 2020: For clarification regarding church services and the new region-specific provincial health order put in place this afternoon, Dr. Bonnie Henry states that church services are exempt from this order, as long as existing covid protocols are in place. See video clip of today’s briefing. We look forward to welcoming those who pre-registered for the service tomorrow morning. Please remember to read our protocol document before attending. This info can be found on our church website.
Sunday, November 8, 2020 @ 10am: We’ll continue our series on The Life of David, exploring 1 Samuel 25:1-39, the story of David, Nabal, and Abigail. Through the lens of this story we’ll look at how quickly and easily being hurt often turns into becoming the ones doling out hurt to others, and what we can do to stop that cycle.
