A motorcyclist who warned a woman to stop texting while driving nearly got sideswiped by her moments later. It's all on video.

Thank you OPP! This morning at 9 am when it was still cold outside some self-important control freak tried to tell me it was illegal to have my dogs in my car (...with the rear window open, parked in the shade). I pointed out (nicely) that she was mistaken; it's illegal to have a dog in distress (or a child in distress) in your car but perfectly acceptable otherwise. The busybody threatened to call the police so I said to go ahead. The police officer said the misinformation that it is illegal to leave dogs in cars is a huge headache and wastes a lot of police time. The officer told the complainer that the situation did NOT warrant a 911 call and that she should mind her own business :D Hooray See more

Although this is not a political facebook page, I thought that I would add my opinion on the important issue of our possible new voting system for the next federal election. As this should not be considered a partisan issue, I think that I can make a few suggestions. I believe that a purely proportional system would turn our parliament into a very disfunctional system because too many parties would become elected and making decisions would be very difficult and cumbersome. So...me South American countries and France have a different system that seems to work. We would still have local elections in each riding to see who wins the riding. A few weeks later we would have another election in each riding but with only the top two candidates still in the race. Once this second election is held then the winner in each riding would have the majority of the vote. This will be happening simultaneously in all the ridings in Canada and each riding would be represented by someone who got the majority of the vote in the riding. The parliament would still be functioning as it does now except every riding would have a more legitimate member representing it. The beauty of it is that we will still have a similar system but much more legitimately elected. See more

Some comments about Human Rights. Ontario has the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal which has the power to make decisions regarding individual's human rights. These decisions are made by adjudicators at the board. The board sits in many Ontario cities such as Toronto, London, and Ottawa. I understand that the current law is partially based on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights which is now close to 70 years old. A big part of the cases handled are dealing with employment issues such as discrimination in the work place. There are also cases based on service issues and landlord and tenant issues. The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal has a great website where you can obtain further information.

The Landlord and Tenant Board usually holds hearings twice a month in Cornwall. Tenants have access to a Duty Counsel at the hearings at the Best Western Hotel on Vincent Massey Drive. The Landlord and Tenant Board has an excellent website. There is also the possibility of mediation at these hearings and these are held by professional mediators. It is usually recommended to try mediation by the adjudicators and it does not cost anything. All applications can be filed at the local Service Ontario office and there are fees to file an application in certain cases.
