Corvette Specialties Auto Group Inc in Surrey BC Canada has been awarded the Restoration contract for the The Most Important Corvette in the history and evolution of "The Corvette". This Corvette started life as a 1953 Corvette # E53F001260. It was pulled off the assembly line without paint and sent to the styling studios to make prototype changes for the 1954 Motorama Corvette Dream Coupe. This car was the first Corvette to be equipped with a hardtop, roll up window...s, exterior door handles, and a glove box built into the passenger front door hinge pillar. There were multiple body modifications done as well to accommodate the prototype changes. The Hardtop pictured in this article is the first Corvette hardtop made by GM. It is very similar to the first production hardtop made for the 56 Corvette. Although it is similar. That is where it stops. All of the moldings on this hardtop are made of bronze and approximately 3/8 inch thick. Most of them have EX part numbers cast into the back of them. EX standing for experimental. The rear window is also similar but not the same in size and shape, as can be seen in the restoration pictures attached. According to the owner of this Corvette. The rear window in the hardtop has been broken and missing pieces since the late 1950's. The rear window is approximately an inch and a half taller than a 1956 window. We have most of the pieces from the original broken glass and we have glued it back together to enable us to make a product to pull a mold from, and then produce a final restoration part from that mold.
