This month, we're joined by Adi Oltean (Project Apollo: https://helpfulengineering.org//project-spotlight-apollo-/) and Ben Coombs (PubInv oxygen concentrator project) to discuss oxygen concentrators. There are multinational companies and even nations joining in the race of ventilator contributions to the developing world as COVID-19 has spared practically no one. That said, ventilators and CPAP machines are of little use if there's not enough oxygen tanks, especially if t...he production capacity cannot keep up with patient volumes, and/or supply chain and transportation infrastructure problems present in some countries with violent conflict prior to the pandemic. Hence the importance of today's discussion. Interested in trying out these designs? Contact us at [email protected] Wondering how you can help? This week marked a significant milestone for COSMIC Medical! With cases of COVID surging in Brazil -800,000 deaths and 2.1 M active cases -the volunteer-led COSMIC Outreach team contacted the Canadian Consulate in Rio and worked with customs officials on the ground to facilitate the delivery of two snorkel masks to Dr. Monica Cruz at Pedro Ernesto University Hospital. Dr. Cruz had been using the same N-95 mask to treat patients for over a month, and she was relieved to recei...ve the snorkel mask to protect her staff in their treatment of COVID patients. Snorkel Mask is one of five medical devices from COSMIC that are tested, low-cost, and can help save lives. All of our designs are available - free - to anyone who may need them, anywhere in the world.
