HOCKEY AT THE ANNEX: In order allow the greatest number of people possible to use the Confederation Annex outdoor ice rink at Trudeau Park to play hockey, the City of Côte Saint-Luc is updating the time slots for hockey and free skate. In short, we are adding more ice time for hockey, adding a new user-friendly webform for residents to request hockey ice time, and distributing hockey ice time slots to the greatest number of different people as possible. The updated system wil...l be fair, add better control for who is on the ice, and ensure only Côte Saint-Luc residents are playing hockey on the ice. From Friday, January 1 at noon until Saturday, January 2 at noon we will accept requests for hockey ice time on half the ice surface at the Confederation Annex of Trudeau Park for that coming week of Monday to Sunday. https://cotesaintluc.org//new-hockey-ice-time-reservation/

Over the holiday period, many city staff will be out clearing snow from streets or providing library and recreation services. But other city staff will be taking some time off and getting ready for 2021. So, if you have a city-related matter that is urgent, call the 24-hour Public Security number at 514-485-6960. But for everything else, consider waiting until 2021 to message staff. This will help keep inboxes clear. In the event of an important and urgent issue, staff will be able to triage it. Finally, our social media team will be stepping back from our pages and groups during the holidays. We may not be able to respond to comments or messages. However, rest assure that if there an urgent situation in the city, we will share the info on social media and at CoteSaintLuc.org.

This was one of the takeaways from the City Council meeting of December 21, 2020, in which the Council adopted the operating budget and capital expenditures budget. The City Council will officially set the tax rates at a special meeting on December 23 at 6:30pm. Read the announcement: https://cotesaintluc.org/announcements/2021-budget/... The following message was sent by phone to subscribers of the CSL emergency alert system on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at 7:30pm. * * * This is Mayor Mitchell Brownstein with an update on COVID-19. In the last 12 days Cote Saint Luc has had more than 100 new cases. As a comparison, it took 110 days or 3 and a half months to get 100 new cases. ... We haven’t seen numbers as high as this since the month of April. But unlike in April, most of the cases are in apartments, condos and single-family homes, as opposed to seniors’ residences. What we are experiencing now is community transmission. That means you must take extra precautions if you are age 70 or older or have underlying medical conditions. Any indoor activity now poses a higher risk. Be ready to order your groceries online. I know many of you have learned how to do this. I also know that stores are much better organized now and are better able to deliver groceries to your home. If you don’t use the internet and need phone numbers to stores that deliver, please call the city and we’ll give you those numbers. Call us at 514-485-6800. The Government of Quebec based on recommendations from their health department has adopted the following red zone regulations for our region, including Cote Saint Luc. The government is allowing seniors who live alone to have one visitor at a time. The visitor can be a relative, friend, caregiver or a homecare worker. Remember to wear masks, physically distance and wash your hands. For those of you who do not live alone, you are not allowed to have friends or family over to visit, indoors or outdoors, but may have a tradesperson like a plumber enter your home when needed. To families with young children, you can continue to use our parks, but only with the people you live with. When you’re at the park, you cannot gather with other families. What about city services? Libraries have been closed. However, we are able to continue the library’s outdoor pick-up service. All sport or fitness activities in a group are no longer allowed, so we’ve had to cancel hockey, fitness classes, swim classes, swim team and other similar programming for as long as Quebec deems Cote Saint Luc to be in a Code Red zone. However individual fitness activities are allowed to continue, like free swim and free skate. So please keep active, by participating in our on-line fitness programming, walking, jogging, biking, swimming, skating, or working out at home. I know it can get confusing. But whatever the rules are on any given day, don’t forget the goal, which is to stopas much as possiblethe spread of COVID-19. So please remember to wear your mask, keep two meters apart and wash your hands as often possible. Keep safe. https://cotesaintluc.org/annou/covid-19-telephone-alert-12/

Anxiety, depression and other mental health problems are on the rise among teenagers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these problems can be more difficult to manage or they may even become worse. Unfortunately, teenagers’ access to services may be limited and waiting lists can sometimes be long. Therefore, the Teenage Health Unit at the Goldman Herzl Family Practice Centre is offering free virtual group therapy sessions via Zoom (a secure online platform) to youths between the ages of 13 and 19 who would benefit from psychosocial help. https://www.jgh.ca//teenage-health-/virtual-group-therapy/

This week, the Quebec government agreed to participate in the Canadian government's COVID exposure app. The more people in our community who install the app, the better chance the government has to warn people about a possible exposure to the virus. Download the app: iOS: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/id1520284227 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details... The app uses your phone's Bluetooth wireless feature to keep track (in an anonymous way) other people with the app. Watch our walkthrough from July 2020 to see how to install it and use it. #healthcanada #exposurenotification #covid19 #canada
