In the past year we have seen a dramatic increase in European Gypsy Moth (EGM) infestation in southwestern Ontario, including London within the Byron and Oakridge areas. The City’s Urban Forestry Department has developed an EGM 2021 Management Plan to mitigate possible long-term permanent damage caused to high value trees like oak trees. The report will be going to the Planning & Environment Committee this Monday, February 8 at 4 p.m. You can attend virtually by clicking on t...Continue reading

The new recycling & garbage collection calendar is being mailed to residents this month. Many neighbourhoods have already received them, but if yours hasn’t yet..., it should be arriving soon. Thank you for your patience. You can also access your calendar online at london.ca/collectioncalendar or by downloading the Recycle Coach app. If you have not received a calendar by October 15, please request one online at https://apps.london.ca/ZoneFinder/ or by contacting [email protected]

I met with the Chief of Police last week and one of the issues we discussed were my concerns of modified car and bike engines that are excessively noisy as they continue race through our streets. These concerns are shared by myself and many others across the city. I made it clear that I have heard from many constituents about this as well as witnessing it myself too many times. This issue began in Peel and has worked its way down thru Hamilton and now London. Cars are bein...g modified for extra noise. I believe its also led to dangerous driving at high speeds. The police have heard from myself and other councillors asking for enforcement of the laws under the Highway Traffic Act. This morning the following press release was issued by the London Police. TRAFFIC INITIATIVE IN RESPONSE TO VEHICLES WITH LOUD MUFFLERS TRAFFIC INITIATIVE IN RESPONSE TO VEHICLES WITH LOUD MUFFLERS More than 150 charges issued over four days LONDON, ON (October 7, 2020) - In response to ongoing complaints regarding racing and loud vehicles, members of the London Police Service have been engaged in education and enforcement regarding this issue across the City. Between Monday, September 28, 2020, and Thursday, October 1, 2020, members of the London Police Service stopped several vehicles with modified and/or excessively loud exhaust systems. As a result, the following charges were laid: No muffler or improper muffler (110 charges), Highway Traffic Act; Causing noise likely to disturb (38 charges), City of London Noise By-Law; and Vehicles operating with emissions control equipment removed (four charges), Environmental Protection Act. Motorists charged under the Environmental Protection Act are subject to their licence plates being seized, requiring their vehicle to be repaired and brought back into compliance before they are able to operate it again. Members of the London Police Service encourage vehicle owners to repair modified exhaust systems and avoid using devices to alter and/or increase the sound of their vehicles Also, the Chief informed me that between March and September - 76 racing charges (>50 km over the speed limit) have been laid across the city (more than 3x the same period last year) - over 1800 speeding tickets were issued with 145 on Oxford near Wonderland alone. The police are continuing to look for ways to stem this dangerous behaviour. I will continue to press the police to continue to take action so we have safer roads in our ward and across the city. Steve
