2Something crazy happened last week - we turned 2! Thanks to everyone who participated in one way or another by purchasing beer, merch, nyam’s delicious food. It was great seeing you, even just for a few moments while handing you your orders. We also wanted to take a moment to thank our customers, friends and family for helping us get here, your support hasn’t gone unnoticed (especially under current circumstances!!) Whether you’ve been Counterpoint from the start, or have recently joined our journey, it’s been great having you along! Here’s to a bright future and more beer adventures with all of you!

BACKUP SINGERS - IPA The talented backup singers never get enough credit for their hard work and harmonious voices, while the lead always takes the praise! So, we took malted barley out of the equation and gave the stage to wheat, rye, oat and rice... and hops. We still used hops! Notes of peach & tangerine, with a zesty citrus finish.... 5.8% ABV, Tier 2.

Happy New Year! As we close out 2020, be sure of one thing: Gratitude is our attitude. We know everyone has struggled in one way or another and yet, you found a way to continue to support us. Bon (H)Iver - Cran-Orange Wheat Beer Officially our second annual (we're on a streak!) cranberry-orange beer. With a fluffy, pale pink head, this year's version is presented as a zippy, bright wheat beer. The cranberries and mandarin orange zest almost mask it's own beer-like qualities, Letterkenny Problems may even describe it as having a sparkling-cran-orange-tini-esque flavour profile. Wintery, without being a dark beer. 6.1% ABV, Tier 2.

Coda - IPA - Dryhopped with Mandarina, Mosaic, Citra. It only takes one silly free app to turn a beautiful video of a beer being poured to turn it into an absolute representation of 2020 . Coda, in the world of music, means the concluding passage of a piece or movement... So let's close out 2020 on a high note with a heap of hops. For our last IPA of the year, we bring you a classic Counterpoint IPA, with a touch of bitterness, and a bouquet of aromas and flavour notes broug...ht to you by Mandarina Bavaria, Citra and Mosaic... underlying orange throughout with low-mid level dankness and a citrus-pine finish. 6.7% ABV, Tier 2.

Our guest brewer for the next beer in the Diversity & Inclusion in Beer series was none other than Lenore Johnson of LenJo Bakes! What a time we had getting to know her (OMG she looooooves Christmas ), and the journey (literal and figurative) that led to opening her very own bakery right here in Kitchener. More details on the beer when it’s ready, but in the meantime, Visit LenJo and try out some amazing treats while supporting a fantastic local small business.

It’s not often that we get to sit down and enjoy a proper meal at work... Not enough hours in the day! Last week we were spoiled by All Sauced with a midweek nutrition break and couldn’t be more thankful to enjoy her company. Lori made a beer battered shrimp Po’ boy made with the original Opus One! Orange - Restrict: We're open, for now. As we have already limited the number of patrons to four or less per table, we were aligned with the requirements for seating, capacity, table spacing etc. The major change that Orange brings is that we will be engaging the CANATRACE app to simplify and consolidate screening questions and contact tracing information. To use this, you simply need to: 1 - Scan the QR code we have posted using the camera on your smartphone. 2 - Complete t...he requested information and questionnaire. 3 - Show us the result before being seated. As we're expected to swiftly enter into Red - Control in the near future, stay tuned for more changes. We have not yet determined if we will keep the taproom/retail operational. However are ready to take on the stairs again for curb side (parking lot) pick up, and of course, don't forget about our Eco Courier option for same day delivery. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. As small business owners, we are extremely thankful to have great customers. We're wishing you and your families nothing but good health. AOTEAROA - Passionfruit Sour with Chocolate & Ginger **PREORDER FOR PICK UP DECEMBER 23 & 24** Counterpoint started the Diversity and Inclusion in Beer series to combine our passion for beer and community. We're inviting folks that are underrepresented in the beer industry to create with us and express their passions through brewing.... We have been digging LenJo Bakes amazing baked goods since discovering her shop on Ahrens St in Kitchener. And although Lenore isn't much of a beer lover herself, she was keen to create one with us. Together, we brewed Aotearoa, the Mori name for New Zealand, translating to "Long White Cloud." Aotearoa is a passionfruit sour with chocolate and ginger and is based on a couple of LenJo's favourites desserts - pâte de fruits and chocolate. it's an adventurous beer for your senses! Your Mildest Dreams Not in our mildest dreams did we think we'd brew an English Mild. But certain times call for an unexpected brew. Light maltiness, with earthy and lightly herbal flavours make way for a toasted nutty finish.... (Whatever happened to The Moody Blues anyways?) 3.4% ABV, Tier 1

Hello friends. You may recall our latest batch of Black Cello was made with Birch Bark Coffee Company, #coffeemakingadifference. We committed 10% of sales to Birch Bark’s water trust fund. Thanks to our customers and licensees for supporting this initiative and making a donation of $245 possible. This is but a tiny portion of what is needed to create big change, but you can help. If you love coffee, give Birch Bark a try - they are an ethical company that sells great beans, and every bag helps reach the goal to end all water advisories in Canadian Indigenous communities.

FERMATA A Fermata is a note that is extended by an unspecified length of time. A fitting name for this DIPA with a lasting taste thanks to 3 big hops: Amarillo, Mosaic and BRU-1. Aroma of grapefruit and lemon zest accompanied by a mouthful of five alive for days. A light sticky-sweet resiny finish reminds you it's a double.... 7.7% ABV, Tier 2.

GuavAllegro - Guava Sour A Saturday afternoon release comin’ at ya! This kettle sour with real guava is satisfyingly tart, with a refreshingly full mouthful of guava. We really just wanted to be the first to try out these sweet new bike lanes being installed along Victoria St.... 5.0% ABV, Tier 2 See more

TOO LEGIT TO QUIT We collaborated with Bill Thompson from Kickoff Waterloo for a seasonal beer and here's the result! A low ABV, medium bodied, full-flavoured dessert stout. The recipe called for bushels of raspberries, pounds of cocoa, with a bunch vanilla beans and a small handful of coffee beans. We're comparing it to the Viva Puff and/or raspberry-chocolate truffle... regardless, this is dessert for any holiday meal. (No natural or artificial flavours added).... Just as COVID hit early this year, craft beer and sports bar, Kickoff, closed its doors. With no physical venue, Kickoff continues as The Kickoff Annex, where beer lovers gather online to meet industry professionals, and other like-minded folks. Check out this group of beer geeks that truly are Too Legit To Quit sharing their passion. 5.1% ABV, Tier 3 (Lessons learned: 1- viva puffs are impossible to cut without crushing, and 2- good luck finding a box of cookies without 5:1 crushed cookie ratio)

The Hop-Strainers completed Movember this year, and thanks to all our donors, raised $5,283! Weekly check-ins on zoom for moustache accountability and to vent, discuss today’s stresses and just laugh at (never) each other’s stache. POSITIVE VIBES A nice uplifting hop when we needed it the most, Motueka really pulled through for us. Positive Vibes is a single-hop hazy pale, full on flavour with a light(er) ABV. This special New Zealand breed gives the beer an aroma of clementine and wildflower honey, with notes of key lime and mild coconut on the tongue. Low bitterness and big on positivity.... 5.0% ABV, Tier 1 Purchase online or in store, we’re open for retail only (no taproom) this weekend: Thursday-Saturday 2-6.

Happy Canadian Beer Day! We’re celebrating this special day by sharing our latest beer release: TBT. This beer is, like, soooo 2009. TBT (Throwback Thursday) is a West coast pale that will take the original craft beer drinker on a nostalgic trip to their first hoppy beer. Bitter, malt-forward flavours akin to caramel squares (the ones found only at Halloween) followed by the unmistakably West coast finish of grapefruit and pine leave additional bitterness.... Drum N Bass A scaled back version of our original Drum N Bass DIPA. We all know Citra & Simcoe make a lovely couple (dare we call them... Simtra...?) and give a ton of your favourite IPA characteristics, from dank to bright and juicy. 6.9% ABV, Tier 2.

Nocturne We've finally caught up to stout season (whenever that is) and are releasing one of our regulars, Nocturne. Nocturne should fill your craving for a classic oatmeal stout. Smooth, not too thick, and aroma of roasted malt with lots of chocolate flavour.... Cheers, stout season (yeah yeah... we drink stouts anytime too) is here! 6.5% ABV, Tier 1

20 Hz - Coffee & Vanilla 20 Hz is the lowest frequency the human ear can detect. Think bold. Think deep. Think bass. Our third 20 Hz release is a rich Imperial Stout aged for 11 months in a single Bourbon barrel. This is our second time filling this barrel and it surprised us with the character it provided to the final product. We infused this batch with coffee beans from Aroma Cafe and vanilla beans to compliment and add complexity. Notes of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, ...roasted nuttiness, and of course, bourbon. 11.9% ABV, Tier 3. Available in bottles only, and 1 keg will be sent to @arabellaparkbar.

Opus Three A beer that can be described as subtly complex, and a perfect beer for the cooler seasons. We aged this Kveik-fermented amber ale for 11 months in a Pinot Noir barrel with Brett D (Escarpment Labs), then conditioned it in bottles for a further four months. It is (finally!) ready to be enjoyed, or can be cellared for further development. Burnt orange in colour, Opus Three's current profile lends an aroma of earthiness with caramel and vanilla, and flavours of chocol...ate, plum and dark cherry leaving a tart, winey finish on the tongue. 5.5% ABV, Tier 3. Available in bottles only.

Every Good Beer Deserves Hops Pretty self-explanatory - this is a good beer with hops. Some would say it's a bit of a juice bomb, but we'll leave that to you. EGBDF... EGBDF... EGBDH... See how easy it is to combine beer and music? Some would suggest this is a true counterpoint. When your grade 4 music teacher drilled this mnemonic into your young malleable brain, they were also planting the craft beer seed that would grow and allow you to blossom into a true beer lover (that... might also like music). Duet 18 - Pale Ale with Comet and Vic Secret Duet is finally 18 and is super pumped to be a grownup and vote (and being part American, part Australian, Duet 18 has done their part by sending in a mail-in ballot.) Dryhopped with Comet and Vic Secret, this version of Duet is one of the milder, fresher ones in the series. Peach, pineapple and ripe berries come through thanks to this duet of hops.... 5.0% ABV, Tier 1.

One Drop - Saison with Tamarind, Ginger and Clove We wanted to bring attention to the ways diversity augments our community, while collaborating with some amazing people. This led to One Drop, the first of our Diversity and Inclusion in Beer series, which is making its debut this weekend! One Drop is named after the unmistakable drum beat heard in so many great Reggae tunes. We had the pleasure of collaborating with Teneile Warren and Aaron Francis to create a criss flavour p...rofile and label artwork to honour Jamaican heritage. Much love to Aaron and Teneile and thank you for brewing with us! Chef Teneile, owner of Nyam Revival Kitchen (Life In Homemade), opted for tamarind, ginger and clove additions to create a pleasantly balanced saison. In addition to the flavours of the ingredients themselves, the beer lends some sweet and sour notes, along with citrus peel, fresh date and caramel. Teneile suggests pairing with green curry and Chinese stir fry. Aaron is the founder and curator of Vintage Black Canada, documenting the transnational modern history of the African Diaspora in Canada. The portrait selected for One Drop is of Aaron’s Grandmother Muriel Francis and her children, taken by his Grandfather Roy. This photograph represents Waterloo Region’s Black families and their rich heritage within the Region. One Drop will be available this weekend at TWB Co-operative Brewing's Craftoberfest, and next weekend at Counterpoint, in bottles and on tap. This beer is a community oriented beer, and we are not collecting any profits from its sales. Instead, the profits will be put towards a scholarship fund. (Full disclosure: We have not decided which fund at this point, but we will be transparent and provide all details when we have them). Label by Fellows Agency, printed by KinsBrae Packaging. UPDATE - the beer is being packaged today and the big release is tomorrow OCTOBER 10, along with Nyam’s popup. Chef Teneile is cooking up a green curry to pair with One Drop.

If you missed them last time, this is your chance to grab some Brasilian street food (which tastes great alongside a pint).... Eat in our taproom or take out. 3 Hops & The Truth Just like writing a country song, crafting a good DIPA is as simple as it gets. Music requires chords, but when it comes to beer, all you need is hops, and the truth does the rest. This DIPA was dryhopped with Vic Secret, Mosaic and Citra, the hops that shed a tear no matter where you taste them, kinda like listening to Old Shep... but with a better ending.... Papaya, mango and citrus peel with underlying dankness from nose to finish. 8.4%, Tier 3

Hoptoberfest Just like the big fest hall filled with joy, sweat, tears and beers, this IPA is filled with 4 hops, which we must admit, are slightly tastier than the ingredients of a fest hall. Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Bru-1 combine to create a flavour profile that includes orange and pineapple juice, with a touch of juniper berry. Not considered german in any way, but it is, by any standards, a fest in your mouth.... Prost! 6.5%, Tier 2.

Saturday 2-5pm The Phonocators are playing live outside on our patio! This just might be (inside scoop - IS) our last patio weekend at Counterpoint. So we’re closing it down with some great tunes and a full tap list.... If there isn’t room on the patio, there will be space on the front lawn so bring a chair or blanket and pack a picnic! (No beer on the lawn though!) We will be keeping it safe here and need your cooperation. We ask that you abide by policies regarding mask-wearing, capacity, physical distance. Sanitize, wash, and let’s work together to put and end to this second wave.
