Country Stained Glass 05.04.2021

While waiting for another shipment of glass to arrive for some custom orders, I did a little spring cleaning in the studio and came across this sweet pattern that I’ve made up a few times. Next thing, it was on my bench. I had just the perfect glass for this window. Beautiful Pink Rose & Beveled Stained Glass Panel... Clear textured background, a fine irredescent inner border surrounded by bevels. This window is full of art glass and rainbows! Measures: 15.5 wide x 21.5 high $350 See more

Sunday. A day of Rest...... The Winter Blues Project Sometimes people hang on to broken windows. Stashed away in storage waiting for someone to fix it. Someone had picked up the panel the wrong way and appears that it was dropped. I picked up this window from a client and it went on the bench this past week.... The framing was bent and over 30 pieces of glass broken. Matching the glass can be a difficult task as most of the glass made back in the 1980’s is no longer manufactured. I matched the glass as best as I could. Each broken piece carefully removed. De-soldered. Re-cut. New foil. New solder. Then onto the next broken piece. One by one until all the breaks are replaced. New framing. New hooks to hang. Waxed and polished. Ready to deliver back to the owner this week One day, last week, I took a break from glass. I painted the interior of a house in St. Catherine’s . And past Thursday, I painted kitchen cabinets near Dunnville. I always seem to have a paintbrush in my other hand

Sunday. A day of Rest....... Good morning, I often change out my hanging stained glass windows. This window faces north. No direct sunlight. No rainbows. The colours slightly change throughout the seasons. This antique gothic frame has been in my collection for some time. It was empty in the back shed until last year. A frame that once graced a Church. Measures: 37 wide x 35 high ... $825 I used all antique mouth blown glass from Germany & France. Mouth blown glass is when the artist blows a cylinder shape. Cutting it down length wise and opening it up flat. It is then placed in a kiln for annealing. It is then slowly cooled. Sheet sizes are limited. Thickness varies. Jewel tones. Crispness & clarity of colours. Striations of fine line textures. Air bubbles representing the breath of the artist. Soft to cut. One sheet can cost hundreds of dollars. Stained Glass is an investment. It can create privacy, ambiance & home equity when installed directly into your window openings. This front bay window will be replaced as the seals and cranks are broken. Once the new Windows are replaced, new full size stained glass windows will be created to fill the space. Carefully selecting glass that will not take away from the natural light. Enjoy your Sunday. A day of Rest..... See more

On-Site Repairs. 98% of my work comes to my studio. This is an exception. These stunning Church windows have many cracks, holes and pieces of glass missing. They’re caved and sagging. My instincts and passion would love to see them fully restored but, the client just wanted the empty spaces fixed and holes filled since they won’t be exposed to the outside elements. They will be installed in the interior walls with backlighting. This is where 40 years as a stained glass arti...st gets creative. Job done Now back to my benches. See more

Sunday. A day of Rest. Happy Valentine’s Day The story of the Grapevine Window The window project began in February 1999 at my second store location in Fergus. 2400 square feet of retail including a separate classroom. I had 2 employees at the time. I had just received the news that I was pregnant and carrying Twins.... For safety concerns, I immediately stopped working with lead as it is harmful to the reproductive system. This was a window made for the store and kept my employees occupied in between customers. I closed the store the following year. It was too much to run a business and raise twin girls. The window got damaged at the bottom in the move and of course it wasn’t my priority to repair it. I dragged the window to our new dairy farm in upstate New York. The girlies and I did not move there as our Green cards never came in. Packed everything up again and headed to Huron County. The window sat in the corner there for 11 years until we moved again to West Lincoln in 2009. I was attending many craft shows. Up to 20 per year. Again, the window sat in the corner as it was too large to transport. Which brings me to 2021. Working on old projects and bringing them back to life. The window has a temporary frame for transporting. All repaired and good as new! Finished Glass size: 26 wide x 62.75 high. To build this window today would cost approximately $2800 I don’t have the room to install it in my home. If you are doing any renovations, this window would look beautiful built into a room or a covered deck. Move along price: $1400 See more

Sunday, A day of Rest. Restoration. What a Glass artist sees. As I’m waiting for a shipment of glass to arrive for new orders going on the bench, I pulled out this 17th century window that’s been in storage for the last 8 years and possibly 30 years before I got it. The glass has a reminiscence to Tiffany Studios. A sheer warm glow when daylight strikes it. A mood changer indeed. Designed like the gentle waves of the Ocean. Many pressed jewels and mouth blown rondels. The b...ackground glass has a soft ripple texture surrounded by a thin border of pastel pink leading to the larger perimeter like the forest floor and the outside border that simulates the bark of the trees. A wood sash frame will be ordered with a pair of steel rods to give it stability. Copper ties will then be soldered to the panel and tied to the rods adding more strength and to prevent sagging. Restoring antique windows keeps me in the old world. Learning from design to fabrication, anything is possible. #countrystainedglass #glassmaster #antiquewindow See more

Happy Friday! Stained Glass Dreaming...... We had our deck built on the back of the house several years ago. The contractors were starting on the gable end and I asked them to put this window in. I had made the stained glass window for one of my shows. 2 years ago, I finished the interior of the deck. Beautiful cedar tongue & grove (I cut every board), installed pot lights, ceiling fan and capped the posts. This spring, I will close in the opening to the right with a wall of... stained glass Windows. The wall faces my shop. The railings will be removed. I have already added an antique leaded window into a partial wall. This will be my showroom that I’ll get to enjoy every day. See more

Sunday. A day of rest. God puts you where you’re supposed to be The story of a stained glass window. Back when we lived in Brucefield, Huron County, I was a stay at home Mom & wife. I worked at a few different part-time jobs to help with groceries. One day, I was reading the local paper and found an ad for part-time Milker. I called the number and went to the dairy farm for an interview. It was 20 minutes from home. The interview was a milking. I thought, I could do that s...ince I was raised on a dairy farm. After milking, I swept the food up to the cows and the isles. They had 2 other people that had also applied for the job. I asked the owners how I did. They said you’re hired . The farmer had just recently had a heart transplant of a 21 year old male. The job was temporary while the farmer recovered from this life changing surgery. It was the sons and the mother running the farm. One son was returning to Switzerland. I would milk alongside Marie & Omar. 60 beautiful Brown Swiss cows. Some wearing bells. Such a pretty sound. After my milkmaid job had ended, the couple were building a new house and commissioned me to build the stained glass windows on the gable end of the second floor. They had an Apple orchard and vineyard and were Christian. The windows face the south side of the house. The two lower windows crank open. It was a pleasure creating these stained glass windows, meeting the family and milking. See more

Good morning followers! Portrait of a Bevel The centre bevel cluster was dropped off at the studio. It was a project that had been started a number of years ago but never completed. One of the cluster pieces were damaged. I was given measurements of the opening to which the window would hang. Mathematically, the new stock bevels to add wouldn’t work. With a little tweaking and creativity, this is the finished panel. Let the sun shine through!... Lots of prisms and sparkle Thank you Carol for the opportunity to complete this sweet window See more

Lots of custom windows on the benches this week. One more to finish today and then they’ll all be mudded up. The term Mud is a putty I make that is pushed between the glass and the lead caming. This strengthens the window and weather seals it. These pictures show leading in process. Back to drawing more great designs on Monday.

This Attic Panel fits into the opening of the peak at the front of the house. The scallop design mimics the original front door transom. Opalescent glass was used. It looks beautiful with or without light. Faceted jewels add some great textures and sparkle Last week’s production.
