Community Spirit at it’s finest! Thank you to all of Windsor and the small towns surrounding our home, Country Village Homes, Woodslee, Ontario A variety of organizations and individuals have come forward this year to ensure the residents at Country Village have a wonderful Christmas. As this is not a normal year we were unable to hold our annual Giving Tree where staff and families pick a name a purchase a gift for that resident. Thankfully, our community has helped fill... this void. Throughout November, our Program Manager was contacted by a number of organizations and individuals inquiring about donating gifts to the residents and what type of gifts they could supply. Several Churches in the area have donated gifts for the residents. Trinity Anglican Church in Cottam has donated items such as shampoo Kleenex, lap throws and fidget muffs. Brooker Baptist Church has brought in slippers for every resident. St. John’s Catholic Church in Woodslee would like to drop off gifts to residents on Monday! Community organizations such as Family Respite donated to our residents and Project Warm Wishes have gifted afghans and Christmas cards for every resident in the building! At the end of November, Country Village received a call from Maria D’Alimonte asking if it would be okay if she set up a Facebook group called Secret Santa for Seniors with the gifts coming to Country Village. Mario posted the following on a group site: 2020 has been difficult for everyone, particularly those who may feel isolated, such as our Seniors. This Christmas, please help us bring some joy to senior's lives by donating a small gift to a local nursing home. Please ensure all items are placed in a gift bag, labeled (male/female, if applicable) and not wrapped. This way, the nursing home staff can distribute the gifts accordingly. Please contact me to make arrangements for porch pick up/drop off from December 1-19. All donations will be delivered to the nursing home screener on December 20th, where they will be placed in quarantine until Christmas Day to ensure the safety of all staff and residents. A list of suggested items is posted below. No food items, please. Thank you in advance for helping bring some smiles to seniors this holiday season! We received a call from Maria, telling us her spare room was FULL of gifts! She said she has received 106 gift bags so far!! See the attached photos from our wonderful community donations! We feel overwhelmed with gratitude and sending a heartfelt THANK YOU to the surrounding community from everyone at Country Village!

Our Program Department at Country Village arranged Country Drives on a bus for each wing of our home, individually, so that we did not mix residents. As you can see, we managed to keep them socially distanced on the bus and all wore masks. They drove through all the small towns in the area, many recognizing the towns where they grew up and thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing. Each of the three home levels had a chance to go on a trip. They had a blast and can’t wait to do it again as the Fall colours change.
