The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has granted Destination Greater Victoria and Tourism Vancouver Island its Safe Travels label, recognizing the areas ...for adopting globally standardized health and hygiene protocols. The label allows travellers to pinpoint global destinations where they can experience safe travels, according to a release from Tourism Vancouver Island. Businesses and stakeholders within each tourism region can now apply for use of the Safe Travels stamp, and once they have met the health and hygiene protocols outlined by the WTTC, they can use it for their own promotion. Receiving the use of this global tool is a ray of positivity on what will otherwise be a long, hard road for our visitor economy and tourism businesses this Fall/Winter, said Anthony Everett, President and CEO, Tourism Vancouver Island. We need to encourage British Columbians to keep travelling the Vancouver Island region, but in a safe and mindful way. Using this stamp will reassure visitors that tourism operators are providing experiences that meet required health and safety protocols. The tourism industry has been hit extremely hard amid the global pandemic due to a variety of factors including border closures and travel restrictions. Both Destination Greater Victoria and Tourism Vancouver Island claim they are working hard to adapt to new conditions, suggesting the safe travels label is an indicator of those efforts. Destination Greater Victoria is proud to be granted the World Travel & Tourism Council’s Safe Travels stamp, said Paul Nursey, CEO of Destination Greater Victoria. Our members have adapted their operations during the pandemic, innovating to attract customers and provide a safe environment. The WTTC stamp will be a visual example of their amazing work.
