Local Artist Challenges the Canadian Entrepreneurial Narrative Supporting local artists has been a priority for Invest Ottawa and Bayview Yards since the facility opened in 2016. Art has the power to inspire and motivate change and to challenge conventional ideation. Recognizing the potential impact, our team partnered with Allan Andre to create a 20’ mural that now encases the building’s main foyer. The digital art piece entitled A Burgeoning Future: At Bayview Yards, c...ompleted in the winter of 2020, holds many layers of meaning. The collage of imagery and nuisances of meaning speaks to the viewer differently and calls to audiences historically underrepresented in the Canadian entrepreneurial narrative. I want the people of Bayview Yards to see something that is optimistic that inspires them to create something new and encourage progress. My intention was to create a sense of awe and hope for the future. This work illustrates the way humanity lives in a collective masterpiece. We are all artists who leave our signature on the canvas we call the human experience. Through art, we challenge our own spheres of influence in a way that ripples through future generations. Disrupting the Medical Industry with 3D Medical Models Envision a world in which physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals had x-ray vision. They could look inside their patient to view the specific area as a 3D form and base their decisions on the most accurate information. Dr. Justin Sutherland, Dan La Russa and their team at Realize Medical strove to create a medical device that does just that. The road to entrepreneurship began at Invest Ottawa in 2019 w...hen they were accepted into the Pre-Accelerator program. From there the program guided the founders throughout their journey using various resources such as engaging the Bayview Yards Prototyping Lab (BYPL) team of experts throughout every phase of their prototyping journey. By embracing Bayview Yards, Ottawa’s one-stop business acceleration shop, Realize Medical gained access to the ecosystem of services and programs designed to support entrepreneurs. BYPL team successfully created a proof of concept prototype that was a critical component in securing their first revenue-generating client. Elucis is the world’s first VR platform designed to create 3D medical models. To read the full Realize Medical story visit https://bit.ly/361AXWi.

How a Prototype Helped Local Entrepreneurs to Launch The World’s Friendliest Guided Missile In 2016 fate brought Rick Whittaker and Shanaz Siqouin together to found the Ottawa-based tech company AirShare, Inc.. The collaboration of two entrepreneurial minds, paired with the knowledge and interest in aviation, birthed the world’s friendliest guided missile, a product that safely and cost-effectively removes drone threats.
