Just earned a certification in Vocal Health First Aid What does this mean? Not much! But it’s the first step to more rigorous certifications offered in singing voice specialist-type expertise. It also might mean more if I were new at this, but I’m not. I have following the scholarly conversation around vocal health, diagnosis, and rehabilitation since at least 2012 and have a small, expensive, annotated library full of books and articles to back this up.... I’ve also been liaising with Larynologists and SLPs and designing habilitation programs (i.e. the part *after* rehab) for singers with injury or loss of function, but medically cleared for voice lessons, as part of voice care teams, since 2012. I’ve also been through several rounds of diagnosis and treatment and outside-the-box thinking to address my own sporadic vocal function issues, over the yearsso I get how it can feel. Pretty much everything vocal health-wise is figure-outable and fixable. There are very few issues that will keep a singer off the stage, long-term.
