Historic Holiday Recipe for Fudge Homemade fudge as a Christmas gift sounds divine! This recipe from Mrs. E. Evelyn Hilton of Royston notes that the fudge is Specially good for Overseas parcels. The recipe comes from a local cookbook with a nebulous history as it’s missing the cover and publishing information. What’s for definite is that it was full of much-loved dishes as the pages are worn and covered in splatters from repeated use. ... If anyone makes this recipe, please let us know how it turned out! Just For Fun October 2020 The Fanny Dunkers Ski Club kept their 1954 Halloween party planning short and sweet. Seventy-five copies of the invitation (click to see the original - https://bit.ly/3jqpMKF) were made and distributed. The only tasks left were decorating the hall (assigned to the older girls) and ordering six pounds of butter from the Creamery. Done!

Exclusive photos of our 85 Million Year Old Discovery on Trent River! These two photos were taken prior to the extraction, high up on a cliff wall on the Trent River. Summer 2020 has been an exciting time for staff and volunteers at the Courtenay and District Museum. Natural History Curator, Pat Trask, discovered a fossil on the Trent River that may be the fossilized remains of a juvenile elasmosaurus, a longnecked, marine reptile. This follows Trask’s brother, Mike Trask, ...having discovered the large Puntledge elasmosaur in 1988 and others having made significant discoveries. Popular fossil field trips are part of the museum’s year-round museum programming and Trask, who leads these tours, had found some pieces of the skeletal remains which had fallen from the bank over the past three years. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project and to the Ngan Page Foundation for their 2020 donation towards natural history projects at the Courtenay and District Museum. If you’d like to learn more about this exciting discovery here are links to explore: Times Colonist - Twins find two 85-million-year-old dinosaurs 32 years apart (https://bit.ly/2FYLIip) Chek News - Dinosaur find near Cumberland could be second elasmosaur found by brothers (https://bit.ly/30bBdPh) Comox Valley Record - Fossil discovery could be Comox Valley’s second elasmosaur (https://bit.ly/3ieEcwG)

The Courtenay & District Museum and our very own Pat Trask was in the news this week for an exciting reason! A new fossil was found, possibly an elasmosaur, in a very challenging location along the Trent River. Over the weekend they mounted a dramatic extraction 35 feet above the river. You can watch the video about this below. We're excited to see what we learn from these new fossils!... If you'd like to see an elasmosaur in person, come in for a visit, we're now open.
