Dear Community We have been faced with many recent challenges this year. For those of you not aware, the most recent conflict involves CrossFit Inc. The brand is under fire for a post made by Mr. Greg Glassman. (You can look it up and make your own decisions.) As the business leader and fitness professional in our beautiful community, I want to assure you that, Equality, inclusion and respect for everyone, no matter what colour, race, beliefs, or who you are...is what w...e stand for, nothing less! I don’t take kindly to assumptions and certainly don’t wish to be personally misinterpreted by someone else’s words or actions but I feel the need to make sure that most of all, no one judges our box and our community members as supporters of anything less than equality for all! period. I’m not one to jump on the either side of fresh drama until all the dust settles. I understand everyone has rights to their own opinions and beliefs. However, as a small business owner myself, I have learnt that there are right and wrong ways to handle yourself in the public eye. I feel CrossFit HQ has mishandled many things for the last year, maybe two. The latter being a sensitive one to humanity as a whole. Having said that, our management team has recently had a discussion about these current events. Although I have heard many affiliates and athletes quickly un-affiliating and abandoning CFHQ.... I will take this opportunity to watch & witness how companies, especially heads of companies manage, address change, regroup, support and handle these situations. Remember, everyone is supportive when everything is good but how about when serious challenges pop up? So I think that an un-hastily approach and giving CrossFit HQ an opportunity to see how they handle this, is warranted. (At least until we have the legal right to access our facility again and make any necessary changes) The cost and time to rebrand our affiliate takes a back seat, to the real issue of getting the community working out again as quickly & safely as possible. We will continue to monitor and watch the situation closely. The brand and name CrossFit is a small part of our community, in comparison to the importance of each and everyone of our great members, of all cultures, races, ages, fitness levels. We have a great location and you are supported by passionate, caring coaches who share this representation and feeling of equality for all. It is important for me to get this open back up and keep all these good people motivated and back, practicing a healthy, physical, lifestyle. In the meantime we will observe and hold accountable CrossFit HQ for their actions good or bad. Let’s see what else 2020 has in store...so far it’s been one bumpy ride.
