So last week I got to take out The Old Girl. (the car, not my passenger!) My Poppa's car. The shiny red convertible with the white rag top. The car he would take me yard-sale-ing in when I was little. The car my Grandparents would take to car shows with their friends, to the Sunderland Fair for the Tuesday night car show. The one he drove in the fair parade the year I was in the Fair Ambassador competition. Its been in weddings and parades, car shows and countle...ss long drives with the top down. The sun shining down on your head the and the wind whipping your hair around. Last week I took the kids for a drive and saw their faces much like mine was when I was small and got to go for a ride with the top down. A permanent grin plastered across their faces, their bodies hardly containing their excitement. My daughter buckled in the middle seat beside me reminded me of sitting exactly in that spot, my grandparents on either side of me, listening to the old country western tunes my Poppa loved so much. His deep voice as he hummed or sang along, and a smile always on my Grandmas face as I snuggled into her. The Old Girl is mine now. It's a bitter sweet reality. I always dreamed it would be mine one day (lol because my Pop promised it to me when I was 4 yrs old and didn't think I would ever remember, good lord how could a girl ever forget that?!?!?!? ) I just never thought he wouldn't be here when that happened. A huge thank you to my grandmother for gifting it to me and allowing me to make it mine. Giving me something to hold onto that belonged to the man I was not ready to say goodbye to. Of course it is just an old car (as my Pop would say). My memories will still be there even if it wasn't. My love for my grandparents and those special moments that I will forever treasure, I have them for eternity. So if you see me driving around, and my eyes are looking a little misty... just know that I am thinking of him, hoping he can see the joy that the Old Girl still brings, and witnessing a new generation of memories being formed. #bittersweet #adventuresoftheoldgirl #oldsmobiledelmont88 #generations See more

Man oh man, this is what my dreams are made of.

Who dis? You wouldn’t even recognize this babe from her before.... we did a big chop to make life easier as she heads back to university, and lightened her right up! She won’t be back home again until Christmas break, so we made a soft transition into the blonde so her grow out will be seamless. I can’t wait to see this one grow out:).

How long is too long? I honestly get asked that a lot! I am a lover of long hair BUT that doesn’t mean that it works for everybody! Your hair has to fit your lifestyle. Have you ever wanted to be platinum blonde? Raise your hand!! Platinum blonde can be a challenge to get to.... and a challenge to maintain!... Getting a really clean blonde usually takes a few appointments. Most people will have some old colour that we have to lift through, not to mention some possible heat styling damage.... chemical damage... or just long hair where the hair has "aged" and is not in as great as shape. I know it seems like I can just slap some bleach on your hair and call it a day... but if I don't take account for your hair history, we might end up with a chemical haircut. Trust me, they never look pretty. So once I get you to that blonde you have been fantasizing about, you are going to need support at home to keep it looking fabulous. You will NEED to get a shampoo and conditioner for blondes. These products have a purple tinge to them. What it does is counteract any yellow tones that may develop in your hair (especially since we live in a hard water area. mineral build up on your hair is one of the fastest ways a colour is ruined) You should also get a strengthening treatment, and a heat protectant. There is no way about it. Going blond is always going to weaken your hair to a certain degree. We want to keep it as healthy a strong as possible. Using a bond builder like olaplex, a treatment to balance moisture and protein, followed by a heat protectant before you use your blow dryer or hot tools... you will be doing your best to protect your hair and keep it healthy and strong. The last step... make sure you are in every 4-5 weeks for a root retouch. Your hair will react differently if you let it get too grown out and then you are more likely to develop banding. (not what you want).
