In its first public announcement, U.S. President Biden’s Department of Homeland Security said it would end all enrollments in the controversial Trump program kn...own as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) or remain in Mexico. Since 2019, the program has forced more than 65,000 asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for their U.S. court hearings, sometimes for months or even years. The announcement did not specify what will happen to people currently in the program and only said they should remain where they are, pending further official information from U.S. government officials. Some Cuban and Central American asylum seekers flocked to ports of entry on Thursday morning, many carrying their belongings, hoping to end their waits in dangerous border towns where migrants can face extortion, kidnapping, and rape. https://loom.ly/BJTpuXE

Between 7000-8000 Hondurans have crossed the border into Guatemala since January 15 2021. Violence, lack of employment, back-to-back hurricanes in November and... the pandemic have pushed thousands to seek refuge somewhere else. These massive caravans have been met by Guatemalan forces who are seeking to stop the movement and send people back. Pray with us: https://loom.ly/Nh8savE

We have an exciting year ahead of us. Lord willing, we will be opening the new Herb Jamieson Centre this fall. You might not be aware of this, but Hope Mission’...s Herb Jamieson Centre the primary shelter for Edmonton’s homeless men was an old an unsafe building that needed to be rebuilt. Right now, people like Cameron are working hard every day to rebuild this shelter. Cameron told us of his miraculous and beautiful story: from sleeping in the shelter five years ago to rebuilding it today. Cameron recently shared a bit about his experience talking with homeless men that walk by. He talked about meeting Dan and the joy in his eyes when he heard that people care about him enough to help rebuild the shelter. This place is going to change lives I know this because it changed my life. We’ve already made so much progress and this year, we will see that progress come to completion. Thank you to everyone to gave to make this rebuild possible! We are so grateful!

Why does church matter? Church matters because believers are loving their neighbors. I sense what we’re learning through COVID-19 restrictions is that church i...s not limited to a church building, said Karen Wilk, pastor of Neighborhood Life in Alberta. When Jander and Tiffany Talen joined Go Local, they started paying closer attention to how the Holy Spirit was working in their neighborhood. One day, the Talens were walking when they noticed an apple tree in someone’s yard with fruit piling up on the ground. The couple decided to ask if they could use some of the apples that had fallen. When they knocked on the door, an older gentleman answered. He was happy to give them some apples, and the Talens brought over an apple cake for them as a way to say thank you. Since then, their relationship has only grown. We appreciate Go Local because it made us think about being better neighbors, said Jander. Tiffany and I are taking the approach that these people around us need to be loved.

Missional Giving Tree - Blessing Our Community! We have the opportunity as a church family to bless our neighbors in the Belmead Community with a message of hope and love! We are putting together "Grace Boxes", a box filled with items to bless and encourage families in our Belmead community that we have connected with via our Vacation Bible Camp, and our Sewing Club ministry. We also hope to bless and encourage the teachers and staff at Belmead School, whom we have a new connection to through the reading ministry we have very recently begun there. Check out the Missional Giving Tree page at the website for ways you can contribute to our local mission efforts to connect into and bless the community of Belmead! Check it out at the website. www.covenantcommunity.ca/missional-giving-tree

The next time you feel anxious, try a breath prayer. Simply inhale and exhale through 1-2 lines of scripture. For example, inhale as you pray "Your love surrounds me" and exhale as you pray "I trust you."
