Covid_19 Memorial Blanket

Good Morning Covid_19 Knitters. We wanted to reach out and let you know where we are with the project. Some of you may have caught the follow up news story on Global News yesterday. We are encouraged to report that we have hit the halfway mark in terms of the squares that are required! We are making progress every day, and my heart is full knowing that this is entirely possible to achieve. Your determination, your love, and heart are making this possible, and it’s overwhel...med me with the humanity you have all shown. I will include the clip from our news story in case you may have missed it. We will post this to our social media if you want to have a look. As so many squares arrive we are unpacking and cataloguing as quickly as possible, but with the utmost respect for doing it correctly, and thoroughly. This can take some time. We have had some emails inquiring whether squares have been received, and we are working on a database, so that you can see if you we have processed your squares. We have also received some emails about whether additional squares for individual blankets are still be accepted, and whether they can be done with stash yarn.YES! We will happily stitch them together, and send some comfort to people who need it. I wanted to take a moment and share some personal thoughts with you all as well. This process is a huge undertaking, and we are encouraged daily. But to be honest I have been scared, and sometimes emotionally overwhelmed by the process. I have felt fear as we watch the numbers continue to grow in this country, and my fear comes from what this means for our nation, for our families, for our businesses, and for the global community as a whole. Each night as I stitch together another stack of squares, I think about each soul they represent, I think about their loved ones. There have been tears shed, exhaustion, humility, and the weight of that burden those who loved endured and endure still. I stitch in hope of peace, and the end of the suffering. I know each of us taking part in this project have had moments of reflection, moments of sorrow, and moments of healing. This micro community that has been built will stand proudly in stitch. We have work to do still, from assembly, conquering the last half of the squares, fundraising, and logistical planning. But our collective spirits can make this happen. We are grateful to you. If we could hug each of you personally we would. My heart to all of you who have participated thus far. Sometimes we just need something to warm our heart...tonight as I was unpacking parcels, this sweet face, was bopping me with a paw...saying mamma pay attention to me. Her name is Junebug and has been my constant companion as we log and catalogue all the squares. Sending big and gratitude tonight, so many beautiful letters and lovingly created squares.

Assembly has officially begun. My heart is full of so many feelings, but the motion of sewing these squares together has focused my mind on exactly why we decided to do this project. It’s the humanity, and the kindness of doing something for others, knowing quietly while stitching, the memories of the the souls lost holds a place in the universe. #love #frontlineworkers #essentialworkers #covidknitting #covid_19 @covid_19_memorial_blanket
