Cowichan Cricket & Sports Club 06.03.2021

The Tigers had been licking their wounds from the loss to Alcos CC last year. Today was payback time. Cowichan won the toss and batted first. Quick start from Guri and Arthur set the tone. Wickets kept falling regularly until Narender came to the crease. Him and skipper Brian steadied ship and scored steady. Narender scored a good half century before playing an exhausted shot and getting out. The skipper played through the inning and with some great support from Lenny toward... the end, the Tigers batted to the 45th over to total 232. The tigers started well with a first over wicket from Ben to dismiss last year's centurion Vikram. Steady bowling and consisted catching to dismiss Gaurav and Gavi gave the Tigers a slight advantage.. this advantage was quickly being taken away by Satti who played some beautiful shots all around the field. He played cut shots with pin point precision to pierce the field. Satti eventually popped one to a fielder and got out. Efforts to steady ship by Andrew was met with some great bowling by Guri. By far the best bowler today but Guri didnt quite get his five and had to be happy with three. Sanket wasnt going to be left behing.. he finished off with four wickets and some tight bowling. Ben chipped in with a couple and the golden arm of Harmann is a gift that keeps on giving. Vipul took a great catch in spite of colliding with Lenny.. wasnt going to drop that one.. welcome to the club Vipul. KD thanks for coming by to support. Good win for the Tigers.

Tough loss to the Cougars today for the Cragg's Cup Trophy. Cowichan bowled first, started off well but didn't get wickets even though the bowlers were bowling well. Keiran and Dougie took Metchosin off to a good start. Dougie scored a good half century and kept Cowichan from getting inroads into the batting. A good solid start from Himanshu steadied the innings after a couple of quick wickets. Himanshu looked well on his way to a hundred when Tanzil happened !!! Well, for an...yone who was wishing that he had lost it.. bad news. T still has it.. and in spades.. century plus in 42 balls. Well.. there were three dot balls, two singles, and a couple of twos maybe! Metchosin scored 192 runs in the last 15 overs alone. Himanshu got stuck at the non strikers end while T went overdrive. Himanshu wasn't going to be left behind and scored his ton in the 45th over. Great innings from the two.. a huge total of 378 runs. May I mention that Dukie and Izak hadn't had a chance to bat yet !!! and the Prince wasn't playing !. Cowichan replied strong, Adam and Guri got the batting off to a steady start, Guri did put the fear of god in the Cougars as he put away boundaries at will. Cannot bowl short to this young man !!. Well.. the pitched up one that swings a bit... hmm.. did the trick. Benno showed his experience and class as he went on to get a well deserved half century before being bowled by a peach from Will. Ben, Harmann and Roscoe tried to keep the pressure on and kept scoring freely but they would all fall eventually to some good bowling and fielding by the Cougars. Now.. not only does he mow the field.. he also slides along every part of the field does Mike Smith !!.. some great out fielding by Mikey kept the tigers from getting runs. Cowichan ended up with 286 in the end. Well done Cougars. Always a pleasure playing against you. Better when we thrash you. The Cragg's cup is yours for now.. don't get too attached to it because we will want it back soon. Cricket is best played between rivals who push each other to the limits, yet are right there to give them a pat in the back. What a great day, what a great game, what a great match.. thank you Cougars for hosting us. With all that is happening around us, it is good to know that this level of camaraderie and competition lives on. Cheers all around.

The Tigers lost to Islanders Cricket Club in a closely fought match today. Islanders won the toss and elected to bat. Cowichan CC were able to hold the opening batsmen from scoring freely and took some early wickets. Roscoe and Ben gave the tigers a start but Islanders Skipper Tej steadied the ship with the support of Prashant. Tej threw a way a ton when he played his only loose shot of the day. Cowichan quickly gathered momentum with a couple of blinding catches from King Ar...thur and for a moment the Tigers seemed to be on top. Islanders weren't done, far from it, Kulvir steadied ship and remained not out, extras and some pinch hitting from the tail got Islanders to a total of 287. Cowichan started their batting strong, no early wickets and some good boundaries from Arthur and Ben but both openers were out before the 10 over mark. Enter Guri !!!! Poems will be written about this lad in the years to come! Sensible head on his shoulders and impeccable selection of shots. He put the bad ball away and played a proper Cricket shot to the good ball. He ran between the wickets well and built rapport with his batting partner. A pleasure to watch this young lad score 119 today. Guri was losing his batting partners to a crafty Deepy and Hammer. Deepy was a bag of tricks and got three well deserved wickets. Hammer wasn't going to be left behind and picked up four himself. Throw in a couple of run outs and Kulvir making a crucial breakthrough when Cowichan were trying to rebuild a partnership.. the mighty Tigers fell short, all out 232. (A score I fondly remember one of the mightiest Tigers score all by himself, not out, the legend Canno !!!). Covid protocols prevented us from high fives, hugs and beverages and banter after the game with Islanders. Its never fun losing, but it stings just that bit less when you lose to a bunch of good Cricketers.. even less when they are just downright effing genuine nice people. Cheers Islanders, always a pleasure to host you fine folk.
