We have bikes! Big thanks to @marinbikes_canada for getting some bikes out to help fill all the holes on the floor. We are still short in a couple areas but we are happy to report some stock in both entry level mountain bikes and hybrids!
The tube drought is over!
Our phone and internet provider is doing maintenance today resulting in a temporary loss of connection. At this point we are unable to answer the phone, emails or process transactions. Staff are on hand to help as best as we can in the meantime. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Upcoming construction. This coming week (October 13th/14th) our parking lot is getting paved. During this time there will be NO PARKING in the plaza and access will be foot traffic only. Home Hardware has graciously offered there back parking lot for our customers. This is the strip of parking between Home Hardware and Midas and is a very short walk from the shop. Look for the Cowichan Cycles van.
We are starting to see a few bikes trickle in! The new @ibiscycles Ripmo with @fox factory suspension is sure a stunner!
New goodies from Marin. The latest Alpine Trail is incredible value and the spec/geo looks spot on. Can't wait to have these land in store!
A great opportunity!
We are late to posting this but the most recent Raceface creator series film does an incredible job of showcasing the work that the Story Trails Program is doing with the indigenous youth on Penelakut Island. I don't think it would be an understatement to say that this project will have a life changing impact on some of these kids. Incredible story and incredible film.
Gotta love a custom build! It's great to be able to dial in all the personal touches for the customer's specific needs. Enjoy it @stasher_bc!
New @santacruzbicycles 5010 dropped today along with a very creative launch video!
We spend a lot of time nerding out over bike setup. How many of you have analyzed your body position on the bike? This in depth video is a great starter for assessing your "ready position" on the bike
Missing dog on Tzouhalem, please notify the family if you see him.
Upcoming bike programs through the CVRD! Recently purchased a new bike? Some professional coaching can go a very long way to building your skills!
Please keep an eye out for Jane's stolen Ibis Ripmo
Super excited to announce our new project in support of Nourish Cowichan! Our friend Alek designed these rad new t-shirts that we are selling with all proceeds to be donated to Nourish Cowichan who are feeding hungry kids during this challenging time! Sales are online only through Shopify who have helped us make this happen! https://cowichan-cycles.myshopify.com/
Santa Cruz Bicycles are stand up folks
Some uplifting news from the bike industry as we combat COVID-19
The Ebike might just be the ideal tool for COVID-19. Less enticing to carpool to the trailhead as the pedal is no obstacle. Easier to motivate yourself to ride alone. Climbing is arguably as fun as descending so you can push yourself in lower risk situations. Old school technical riding is a hoot and therefore its more appealing to take the path less traveled which limits exposure to others. Today this machine traveled from the shop, all over Tzouhalem and back with plenty of battery left. Ebikes are here to stay and now might just be the perfect time to take the plunge! @ Mount Tzouhalem
COVID 19 UPDATE: Cowichan ValleyTrail Systems Both Mt. Tzouhalem and Maple Mountains are seeing record levels of traffic. This is understandable given the cir...cumstances and need for people to exercise, get outside and maintain sanity. We all need these areas! However, there is concern about inadequate physical distancing. When the parking lots are over capacity, keeping your distance is difficult. The Municipality of North Cowichan understands the needs of people to use these areas. However, they have a duty to maintain safety in these uncertain times. Due to this, some additional measures are to be put into effect: 1. If the parking lot is full, you may be denied entry. You may have to pass through a control point before entering. 2. Increased signage. 3. Bike wash facilities and bathrooms are closed. Please do not use the bushes for your needs. Do your best to empty yourself before heading out! 4. Actively display great physical distancing! Show everyone around you, and those who are watching, how to stay safe and not spread the virus. 5. Avoid peak days and hours. 6. Please ride in your local areas. We love riders/hikers from out of town but maybe check out your local trails for now. Really, we do love you! 7. If you see people acting responsibly while meeting their needs to get on the trails, make a comment here! Lets show the powers that be that we can do this!
We have taken further steps to address the COVID-19 threat. We are fully no contact, bikes are cleaned upon entry and exit of the store. Payment makes social distancing more challenging so we now interact through a small window in a protected booth. Our debit/credit machine is disenfected between uses. Please also note we will now be CLOSED MONDAYS until this all blows over. Thanks for your patience and understanding
Excited to have something exciting to share amidst all the COVID-19 news. New Cowichan Cycles custom gloves now in store! We are very pleased with how these turned out, thanks to @girocycling for the great work! @ Cowichan Cycles
Hello everyone, please find our official response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the attached statement: https://conta.cc/33x18Sc
Sorry everyone, no group ride tonight as we practice our social distancing. Hopefully this blows over sooner than later
Social distancing and risk management
Unfortunately our little island isn’t immune to the current global pandemic, and at the recommendation of public health authorities and Cycling BC, we are cance...lling/postponing all Island Cup events scheduled before May 1st. This includes the Pro City XC, Hammerfest XC, Cobble Hill XC, Campbell River XC, and the Tzouhalem Enduro. It goes without saying that we didn’t make this decision lightly, and are gutted to have to make this announcement, but the health and wellbeing of our communities needs to take priority. At this point it’s too early to say if or when these races will be rescheduled, or what will happen to the races scheduled May 1st and beyond. What we can confirm, however, is that we’ll be monitoring the situation closely and will continue to work with event organizers so we’re ready to go if the situation improves. Refunds for the cancelled races will done in the coming weeks. The process of issuing refunds is labour intensive so please be patient and remember this is a volunteer run organization. If you paid for the entire XC series you will be credited on a pro rated basis. An incredible amount of work was done over the winter getting things lined up for this season and just like you we’re so stoked to get out there and race as soon as things settle down. We’d like to pass on a big shout out to our series sponsors, Sea Soil, Hornby Organic, Vancouver Island Real Estate Board, and Jarrett Lindal Media for sticking with us. Please remember to support these businesses so they can continue to support us. We’ll do our best to keep you updated via Facebook, Instagram, and the Island Cup website. Now go wash your hands, stop buying toilet paper, and go ride your bike!!
