Such an important thing to discuss. After I had my 2nd child I lost weight really quickly, and recieved a lot of compliments for it. But the truth was I felt a...wful. I felt like I was dying inside. My anxiety was off the charts and I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, and I spent hours a day rocking and bouncing a very screamy baby. On the rare occasion that I had food available and time to eat, I would only be able to nibble at it because the anxiety made me so nauseous. I knew the weightloss was because of my emotional and mental state, and compliments about it felt empty and weird. I knew the weightloss was a sign something was WRONG, it didn't feel like something I should be complimented for. Why couldn't anyone see how sick I really was? Also, our body shape and size is one of the LEAST important things about us, and we have worth and value NO MATTER WHAT. Posted @withregram @_happyasamother Have you felt pressured to "snapback" ? Have you felt insecure about your postpartum body? Our society is incredibly focused on appearance and it can be very harmful. Learning how to compliment another mom (or other person in general) about things other than appearance is so genuine, thoughtful and full of substance. "But Erica, I like when I receive compliments about my appearance" We all like compliments, and I love when I feel beautiful and someone acknowledges it. However commenting on another woman's body is something different. In my practice I've seen people fluctuate in weight due to disordered eating, stress, illness, loss, anxiety, depression, etc. The reality is that we don't know what's going on with that person. We don't know why they've gained or lost weight. I've had many clients lose wight due to disordered eating and stress, and been praised by others about how they've never looked better. If you see beauty in others -- call it out! But try doing it by searching for beauty beyond their outward appearance
