You don’t want the dog to ________. Then start assembling what you do want, in small solvable task the dog can feel good about doing and be rewarded for. Jay Hamelin Wether it’s like my GSD Annabelle @thesweetseven_our_canine_crew or reactivity....stopping unwanted behaviour can often start with reinforcing wanted behaviour. ... Annabelle didn’t start with leaping off her feet and soaring into the air; no. She started with simply pointing her snout upwards which then lead to small upward jumps which lead to higher and higher until her rear end came off the ground. Every step of the way, she was rewarded for small solvable tasks which then turned into the wanted, queued behaviour of jumping upwards. Of course this isn’t the rule and context matters. It’s simply a concept to begin with. The concept: assemble the behaviour you want in order to directly oppose the one you don’t want, in small solvable tasks the dog can feel good about completing and be rewarded for. #ottawadogtraining #ottawadogtrainer #ottawadogs #ottawa #gsd #germanshepherd #jump #ball #orleansdogtrainer #orleansdogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainingtips See more

Cooper. 12 week old Golden Retriever in a Board and Train Puppy Program. Name Recognition Recall Follow Me. ... The underpinning concepts to a great life of adventuring. Pretty good considering he’s 12 weeks and arrived with very selective hearing. It’s not always as easy as you remember it was to raise a puppy right. If you’re having trouble and feel kinda dumb that you are - reach out. There’s nothing you can say that I’ve not heard. Everyone has a hard time some time. #ottawadogtraining #ottawadogtrainer #ottawa #goldenretriever #ottawapuppytraining #ottawapuppytrainer #orleansdogtrainer #orleansdogtrainer #orleanspuppytraining #orleanspuppytrainer See more

Noodlez the 14 week old Doodle is in a board and train program. Her Dad is an active fella - the outdoorsy type. Canoeing is something the family enjoys and would like Noodlez to join them in as they go adventuring. In order to maximize the success rate, it’s important for Noodlez to have her sea legs so she’s comfortable with strange, unbalanced movement the water will add to the equation. First i used the saucer as a target; similar to place, mat or bed. In su...bsequent sessions, I had her be okay steeping over and into the pool. At first without water then with. Then, I married the concepts together but, there wasn’t sufficient water for the saucer to be buoyant....until today. It a little tough to see, but that saucer is buoyant and for a brief period, I was able to simulate the motion she will feel in a canoe Later on, I’ll add more water and try to see if she can balance herself. I think she can. Wish us luck! . What cool, new things are you trying with your dog? Post a pic ! Board and Train Lincoln - 5 months old. I hear it echoing in my mind; he’s fine when we’re at home or, in the house, the dog is amazing. If I had a dollar for every time i heard that, i’d be retired living on a tropical island. Here’s the thing friends... If you don’t proof things outside the confines of your home or your property, you will never know where the dog really is . ... You will have a false sense of security and be terribly disappointed. Unfortunately too many times, we get complacent, life gets busy, we’re tired, its getting dark earlier and, it’s getting colder. Our dogs don’t care about our excuses. A few things here. One, before you go running out to Canadian Tire with your dog, make sure your dog is up for the test. You don’t start here. This is one of many pieces of the puzzle. Two. If you’re going to ask your dog to do a thousand dollar behaviour, be prepared to pay the piper both in value and frequency until that behaviour becomes easy for them - then you increase from pro level, to expert...and begin again. Three. Manage the crowd. Most people will ask to approach. But don’t take for granted everyone understands simple boundaries. If you heard the conversation, the person was approaching Lincoln. Decidedly yet politely, I TOLD her if you don’t mind...leave him where he is...thank you. One person actually went right up to him, and grabbed the leash ! She was nun...I wasn’t prepared to tempt fate. She did put him back in a down. It was a win win. I actually went right out sight several times and Lincoln did fantastic. Be as kind as you can be. As fair as you can be. As firm as you need to be. And as consistent as the dog needs. Way you go. Post a pic or video of your dog and degree of difficulty you both are working on #ottawadogtraining #ottawadogtrainer #ottawadoglifestyle #bulldog #puppy #puppytraining #ottawapuppytrainer #ottawapuppytraining #orleansdogtrainer #orleansdogtraining #orleanspuppytraining #orleanspuppytrainer #dogtraining See more

Oodles of Doodles. We start with 14 week old Noodlez who’s in Puppy Board & Train. Some really cool stuff she need’s to get comfortable with that involves water. But most of all get her to be as amazing a family dog she can be. Crosby. He’s a 15 week old little fella who’s almost complete his Private Puppy Package. Which will most likely be extended at mom and dad’s request. They’d prefer the k9 Coach Support for a little longer. ... Third is Teddy. He’s the youngest of the bunch, good buddies with Crosby, quite sensitive yet eager to learn. He’s coming along quite well. Things these puppies have in common other than being Doodles? Owners did not wait for the I want my dog to stop... behaviours to emerge; no. Rather they chose pro-action over re-action. Which is essentially this: fundamentals in behaviours and social skills are being installed at a very early age so that : 1- you can avoid the regular unwanted behaviours. 2- if they begin to come about, you have a base, a platform from which you can easily address them. 3- there’s no gut reaction, I want this fixed now sense of urgency. You’re already in the know of what to do, why you’re doing it, when you’re doing it. No big surprises. But we did puppy training ! The quality of the instructor, the quality of the instructions and the continuation of the protocols all matter a great deal...as does the puppy you chose for your lifestyle. Start as early as possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Especially with puppies. Whether it’s Private, Day Train or Board and Train, there’s help waiting for you. Reach out.
