From Eva: Cpca Headoffice: I am attending a Zoom meeting with their CEO tomorrow. We have been very impressed with their intense and immediate responses to any and all concerns that arise. Thanks to all for asking the questions and for providing information and resources so thoughtfully. Please continue your diligent actions in accordance with Zoom directives serving the mental health needs of those around us. If there is anything new to report, I will update you tomorrow. On... another communication note, we at head office have been working with a VoIP phone and have been investigating how we could expand our phone services. We initiated the installation process for zoom phone lines about 3 weeks ago and should be able to utilize extensions to our phone service soon. Although current calls are received and responded to via email, staff will soon be able to send and receive calls through Zoom phone services as well. We will keep you posted :) See more

From Zoom:Dear Valued Customer, We’re always striving to deliver you a secure virtual meeting environment. Starting April 5th, we’ve chosen to enable passwords on your meetings and turn on Waiting Rooms by default as additional security enhancements to protect your privacy. Meeting Passwords Enabled On Going forward, your previously scheduled meetings (including those scheduled via your Personal Meeting ID) will have passwords enabled. If your attendees are joining via a me...eting link, there will be no change to their joining experience. For attendees who join meetings by manually entering a Meeting ID, they will need to enter a password to access the meeting. For attendees joining manually, we highly recommend re-sharing the updated meeting invitation before your workweek begins. Here’s how you can do that: Log in to your account, visit your Meetings tab, select your upcoming meeting by name, and copy the new meeting invitation to share with your attendees. For step-by-step instructions, please watch this 2-minute video or read this FAQ. For meetings scheduled moving forward, the meeting password can be found in the invitation. For instant meetings, the password will be displayed in the Zoom client. The password can also be found in the meeting join URL. Virtual Waiting Room Turned on by Default Going forward, the virtual waiting room feature will be automatically turned on by default. The Waiting Room is just like it sounds: It’s a virtual staging area that prevents people from joining a meeting until the host is ready. How do I admit participants into my meeting? It’s simple. As the host, once you’ve joined, you’ll begin to see the number of participants in your waiting room within the Manage Participants icon. Select Manage Participants to view the full list of participants, then, you’ll have the option to admit individually by selecting the blue Admit button or all at once with the Admit All option on the top right-hand side of your screen. For step-by-step instructions, please watch this 2-minute video. Check out these resources to learn How to Manage Your Waiting Room and Secure Your Meetings with Virtual Waiting Rooms. For more information on how to leverage passwords and Waiting Rooms to secure your meetings, please visit our Knowledge Center, attend a daily live demo, or visit our Blog. Please reach out to our Support Team if you have any questions at [email protected]. Thank You! Team Zoom

If you are using the personal ID for your meetings on Zoom, beware. We knew this information already, and generate a unique ID for our sessions. From Bill’s CSAT list serv: Many of us are using Zoom now daily and this is something to consider: Please heed the following warning issued earlier this week by the University of Maryland:... There is a new thing out there - zoombombing - where people crash Zoom meetings and often post nasty stuff. When you schedule your zoom meetings, the default is personal Meeting ID which is an ID that follows you and does not change. That means if you use this anyone who has learned this ID can drop in. Instead select Generate Automatically which generates a unique ID for that meeting. Me: All of the streaming services use this same system or a variation of it and as is true of all hackers everywhere, if there’s a chance to be disruptive, that’s enough of a goal right there. This is not a security weakness nor a fault of the platform, it is USER ERROR. Before you do Telehealth, please take the time to watch the training videos for whatever platform you choose. Do your due diligence to minimize the risk of exposing your clients to a breach. Doing as much as we can to manage the risk on our end is our responsibility. We can’t however make it NOTHING which is why we explain the risks to the client and have them give informed consent.

Hi Eva, I am writing to inform you the Professional Affairs Committee of EMDR Canada has made a decision that will affect the eligibility of some of your members for EMDR Basic Training . We have approved Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA), specifically the membership categories of Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC), Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling (MPCC), Supervisor members (MPCC-S), Registered Professional Counsellor Candidate (RPC-C)* ...and Student* , to be eligible for EMDR Basic Training. [ * = additional conditions apply] Candidates for training will also need to meet our other eligibility criteria, specifically: a masters degree or higher in an established mental health discipline from a school that was accredited at the time the degree was issued; only provide EMDR treatment when their clients are under the protection of professional liability insurance held by either the practitioner or the organization under who auspices they are working. We hope your eligible members will choose to get training in this evidence-based trauma treatment. Information about training opportunities in Canada can be found at https://emdrcanada.org/trainings/ _______________________________________________ This is great news as this means we are in. Our next move will be to have them accept our RPC and MPCC as equivalent. This is thanks to the hard work and diligence of our Executive Director, Eva Kelades. Great work!!
