Let's talk about child restraint use on an aircraft. All child restraints (except booster seats) sold in Canada, are certified for use on an aircraft. Transport Canada recommends all children in flight under the age of 8 be restrained. Unrestrained children and lap babies are at the greatest risk for becoming a projectile due to severe turbulence. They can be hurt themselves, or hurt others. Using a child restraint on an aircraft has several benefits. The child is familia...r with the seat; they may find it easier to sleep; they are restrained and therefore much easier to entertain during the flight, and not only is using your seat on the aircraft the best way to keep your kiddos safe, it's also the safest way to transport your child restraint to your destination. IF using the seat on the aircraft is not an option the second best way to transport a seat is in its original box. Original shipping boxes are designed to withstand bumps and tumbles and should protect the seat from damage in normal transport. The condition of the box when it reaches your destination is also a good indicator of how it was handled. Once your seat is checked - and out of your sight - it is considered to have unknown history, and shouldn't be gifted or resold. New seat? What's the first thing you should do? Well there are a few first steps but here are the 3 most important. 1. Register your seat!!! Every Canadian child restraint comes with a manufacturer's registration card. Simply fill out your current information and mail it; visit the website and register online; or call the manufacturer and register over the phone. ... Why? This is how the manufacturer communicates any recalls, voluntary safety notices, updates or any necessary changes with your child restraint. Official recalls and safety notices may also be found on the manufacturers website - and here on Transport Canada https://tc.canada.ca//safety-alerts-notices-child-car-seats 2. Read your instruction manual. Initial setup requirements, warnings, method of install (RF or FF) and accessories are the sections to start with. 3. Play! Before you install play with your seat. Move things, test out how things work. Figure out the ins and outs of how the seat functions before you go to install it. It will 100% make things so much easier in the long run if you are familiar with how your seat works.

It's finally warm enough to play with another installation! Here is the Graco TrioGrow Snuglock in a 2018 Honda Civic Sedan. My first impression of this seat is good! While the 10th generation Honda Civics aren't that small, I feel like this would fit just as compact as the Graco4Ever, if not more. The first thing you want to do before installing (this is after you read your manual and prep the seat for installation), is move the UAS strap from the rear facing belt path to t...he forward facing belt path. Why? Because SNUGLOCK!!!! That's why. Graco's internal lockoff technology is the easiest thing ever to use and makes a seatbelt install error free when used correctly. Once you have the UAS moved and stored properly, feed the vehicle seatbelt through the rear facing belt path, buckle, remove the extra slack and and push the Snuglock arm down until it clicks. Test for movement. Voila! Installed. Seat Checks are now booking in the second week of November. (12-13, 19-20, 26-27) I book 1 seat check per day on Thursdays and Fridays. Unfortunately the way the online FB booking tool works it allows more than 1 appt a day. If you choose a day with a booking I will automatically reschedule it to the next available day at the same time. If that's not suitable we will arrange from there.

Thinking of buying a second hand child restraint? There are a few things you should know before you make your decision. Child restraints are one time use life saving devices. It is critical that they function the way they are meant to when you need them! There are some legalities surrounding the sale of second hand child restraints in Canada. But more importantly let's take a look at why buying second hand can be riskier than you think. ... Here's an example I picked up 2 seats from a seller on Facebook Marketplace a few days ago. Both were clek foonfs. They weren't expired (each had between 1 and 2 years of useful life left in them). They had been used in their present condition by the seller. The seller was asking for best offer. The first seat was missing the instruction manual, the anti-rebound bar, the rear facing base, and the harness padding. The second seat (below) looked fine but when examined more closely had some major safety issues. It was also missing the instruction manual and harness padding. 1. The top tether was flipped over and attached to the seat backwards. 2. The protective foam under the shell fell out when I removed the cover to clean it. 3. The back of the restraint clearly showed damage to the shell, scratches and gouges were visible. 4. The plastic button on the headrest function was missing. 5. The styrofoam on the headrest was completely detached. 6 & 7. The UAS was also detached from the seat, and the pin used to attach it had been damaged. 8. The seat was filthy (kids right?) but along with that it was obviously exposed to moisture for a period of time as corrosion was visible on the steel frame. 9. The rigid latch was stuck.
