Finished a #desk for @elhamshahbazi last weekend but before posting full photos, I think this joint deserves its own post. It is a wedged tenon joint that is strong but also can come apart easily, so I can disassemble and flat pack the desk if needed. I saw it first in one of @ishitani_furniture videos a couple of years ago, and was intrigued to find out how it's done and how strong it is. Ever since I saw @diello.woodworks toolbox in @finewoodworkingmagazine tools & shops issue, I became obsessed with it and had to challenge myself to make one similar to it. There is a lot going on in this piece from both design and technique perspectives. I think his design proves that there is a purpose beyond function in everything crafted. Some may say it's too elaborate for just a toolbox, but to me it's about more than just the function. I made this #kumiko a while ago but recently found time to make a frame for it. Who knew work will be busier when you work from home and you you'd have less time for your hobby! Anyways, the frame is made of #maple and has #mitersplines. I used @realmilkpaintco #deepsapphire for the background. The color is more visible and closer to real life in the last photo.
