The sign at The Alphorn always makes us giggle How are you finding ways to cope & smile during these challenging pandemic times?
Max Gros-Louis, leader of the Huron Wendat nation, some of the descendants of the Wendat/Wyandotte/Wyandot who lived in this area in the 1600s, has passed away.... He served as Chief for 30 years. The early French traders and missionaries knew them as the Petun and they built two villages on the Nipissing Ridge at what is now Craigleith. See more
We are happy to have Hilary as a part of the team at the Craigleith Heritage Depot!
We couldn't be more excited to show this #FavouriteFossil! An excellent new addition to our natural history collection. A #BlueMountains resident gave us a heads up on the location of this split boulder with wonderful #fossil specimens. Our staff could only carry the smaller half back to the #museum. It will be safely housed, and on display in the museum gallery in the near future.... Can't wait to share this beauty with the public. More detailed photos to come next Friday! #FossilFriday #Ordovician #Trilobite #Nautiloid #Paleontology #NaturalHistory
Here are some close-ups of our new piece of #GeorgianBay natural history! In this piece of #shale are hundreds of #Trilobite exoskeletons and #Nautiloid shells. From large to very small; a variety of sizes! There are even different species of Trilobites in the same layer of formation. Can you spot the two species?... These photos show just how concentrated the fossils are on the surface, and in certain layers of the shale. It is incredible how one fragile layer can hold hundreds of fossils, and the next thin layer underneath there is nothing, or only one or two.
