Halfmoon yoga goodness! We are stocked up on a variety of mats, blocks, straps (two lengths) and even a couple of bolsters!
What a year 2020 has been! Beva and I want to express gratitude to you, our community, for all the support and encouragement you have given us through 2020. We are truly fortunate to have such a great community! Thank you I would like to also thank the Downtown Business Community, Toby Creek Nordic and of course Nipika Mountain Resort for the warm welcome and encouragement as I take the reigns of the shop. ... A special thank you to Beva and Jordie. 2020 was a wild ride and I am glad we were able to ride it together. Thanks for all your knowledge, support, and encouragement. Onward we go!
For those of you looking for the Nordic club membership tags, a bunch of them just got dropped off today!
We start the year with updated store capacity limits from BC Health: We are only able to accommodate 2 clients in the store at a time. Thanks for your understanding !
Heads up for the Whiteway.
Beva and Jordie are excited to announce that long time Crazy Soles run family member Candace Bruins has been passed the Sole. She and her triathlete husband Brendon have been running with us since the beginning. Candace is the self-labelled caboose with the motto I might not be fast, but I’m enthusiastic! Besides trail running, she loves Nordic skiing, snowboarding, fat biking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, hiking and road biking: all the things that are the mark of a true... Crazy Sole. But not to worry, Beva and Jordie will still be part of the Crazy Soles run family! See you on the trails!
The shop will open again tomorrow, Friday January 28th at 10am. For Friday the 29th and Saturday the 30th I'm giving everyone 10% off their purchase for being so patient with me this week as I dealt with the new system and did some shop rearranging. I'm sure there will be a few bumps in the next few days with the new software (there always is). So it may take me a bit longer to check out as I get used to the system.... The score currently is: Candace - 5 New Database - 0 I've worked with computers for many years. I always win. An extra thanks to the DER3 (aka Digital Economy: Rapid Response + Resiliency) program from KAST for all the help sorting out the new software. #downtowninvermerebc #smallbuinessowner #shoplocal #livecolumbiavalley #DER3 #kootneytech #businesshelp #digitaleconomy #kastinnovation
And for everyone in the Edmonton area, don’t forget that the city maintains (along with the local Nordic club) some sweet Nordic trails along the beautiful river valley! Candace and her husband Brendon used those trails when they lived in Edmonton studying at the U of A. Candace’s favorite (all those years ago) was Hawrelak Park, close to the U. https://www.edmonton.ca/activitie/cross-country-skiing.aspx
For those of you that follow us who are in the Calgary area, did you know that the Foothills Nordic club maintains trails at the confederation golf course? Here’s the link to keep up to date with with conditions at confederation to keep you skiing !
The second video in our series about waxing your cross country skis is all about glide wax. Lyle takes you through the full process using a set of skate skis as an example. For those of you who downhill ski or snowboard, the technique to wax those skis and boards is the same. In fact, wax you use for your downhill skis can be used on the cross country skis. ... As for how often to glide wax, when you notice you’re not gliding along as easy or when you seem to need more effort to get going, your skis or board could use a glide wax application. I always know my snowboard needs some wax because I’m starting to crash a lot when I get off the lift (at least more than I normally do ), or I need to do the shuffle dance to get going. Same is true for my cross country skis. I just stop having that nice long glide. Remember to remove excess glide wax, or you really won’t be gliding along at all. I’ve had that problem myself on my snowboard. I forgot to remove the excess wax and while I was pointed downhill, I wasn’t going anywhere at any speed. It was a looooooong day let me tell you! #tobycreeknordic #nipkiamountainresort #swixglidewax #fischerski
Ideas for Christmas Men's t-shirts from OOM (designed and made in Canada!) Base layers from Icebreaker
For all of you with the new waxless "twin skin" skis, the third video installment of our Nordic wax series. If you are wondering how to care for them, wonder no further! Lyle discusses "skin skis" as well as "fish scales" the two popular types of waxless cross country classic skis. #tobycreeknordic #nipikamountainresort #fischertwinskins #swixskincare
Well it seems that things are looking a little soggy on the whiteway after the chinook that blew through yesterday.....
It's snowing today! Need ideas for layers for being out in snowy weather?
It's new website day! We've updated and expanded our website, so if you haven't checked it out in a while, today is the day to surf over to see. We have added a learn to run section, a cross country ski section for newbies, links to help you find trails and places to ski. In the new year we are hoping to add a newsletter with running topics, cross country ski topics, gear, interviews, etc.
The cross country ski trails are calling. We have our ski wax SWIX center at the shop with all your ski wax needs: Iron? Check. Waxing table? Check. Glide waxes? Check.... Kick waxes? Check. Waxing tools? Check. See more
Hot off the press! The whiteway season pass tags are in, so if you have paid for your pass, you can come by to pick up your tag at the shop. They will also be available at the Kiosk down by the Whiteway when it opens later this month.
