It has deep historical roots in the downtown community, echoed by its location in an historic former carriage way and an overflow gallery in the former carriage house. Our emphasis is on displaying work by local artists. We have just celebrated our 35th anniversary! Raymond Vos’ own photographs from his Kenya trips are on permanent display supporting the charity The Kenya Initiative: https://www.thekenyainitiative.com/ We are now available during normal gallery hours: (613) 549 2477 or [email protected] Take care everyoneRaymond Vos Here is an excerpt from an article that describes life after Covid-19: The interior design of our homes will matter more: Whether you're a news anchor broadcasting live from your basement or an intern joining a departmental Zoom meeting, the insides of our homes are on display in a way that it's never been before, thanks to a dramatic increase in the use of video conferencing. "The result is that people are rethinking what their homes say about them," says Rita Chraibi, founder of International Designers by Rita Chraibi. "Interior designers will focus on creating optimal environments for health and safety measures through the use of lighting, materials, sound, and acoustics." Chraibi also believes that interior designers will be called upon more to help design beautiful and functional home offices, as many people find themselves in the situation where they are now working from home.

I would like to introduce you to all the artists represented by Gallery Raymond. Here is a spotlight on Lori Richards: Places affect me. When I find a landscape that moves me, I take photos which become the starting point for my work in the studio. I paint in a very intuitive way, building up paint on canvas in thin washes then eventually thicker impastos. Experimenting with mediums and glazes and colour upon colour, I add or take away until the feeling seems right. This inte...rpretation of a landscape is an exciting process for me, and this new collection of work is increasingly abstract. I begin at one location and the process takes me on a journey to a new placeimagined and at the same time, remembered. The finished work is always a surprise. In the end there must be an emotional connection to the final painting, for me and ultimately for the viewer. Lori Richards--Limberlost Trail (Acrylic 30 x 30) $1600 http://galleryraymond.com/artists/lori-richards/

So proud to have the current show at Gallery Raymond: "Memories of Kenya" by Daniel Hughes. Here are his notes and a painting of Helen Wambui Kariuki: Memories of Kenya: new works by Daniel Hughes: Notes from Daniel Hughes: From the genesis of this show, I have been trying to create a body of work that conveys my memory of a specific time in my life in Kenya. As work for the show began, I had discussions with Raymond Vos about using the incredible photographs he had taken dur...ing his visits to Kenya as the reference for my work. The way memory shifts and moves was an interesting parallel to the shifting of narrative from photograph to drawing or painting. I found as I built up form and then destroyed it, the process solidified the tie my work had with Raymond's without me simply copying his photos. Raymond’s process of enhancing his images and therefore focusing the narrative was then altered through my process of painting and drawing. Often the final piece would have almost a feeling of decay or a faded quality similar to memory. Raymond Vos’ charity The Kenya Initiative raises money primarily for educational support in a community in Kenya. The AIDs epidemic has orphaned a generation of children, so the burden of care has fallen to their Cucus--their grandmothers. These women have made unimaginable sacrifices to provide for their children’s children. Education of their grandchildren is the way forward, and the hope of this generation. Although not all of the work is centered around the grandmothers, many of the drawings are. I have strong memories of women similar to these from my childhood when I lived in Nairobi. The process of drawing these women was a humbling experience. I found at first that I was separated from them until I got completely into the work. Then it felt like their stories started to emerge. Thank you to Raymond for his inspiration and dedication to such a wonderful calling. A note from Raymond Vos: Thank you to Daniel for listening to his heart and responding with his craft to help tell the story of these courageous Kenyans. I deeply appreciate the respect that he has shown my photographs and the way he has connected with them. They are my means of story-telling. I want to tell stories of my friendships with the wonderful people I meet in Kenya. I want to tell their stories. I want to create awareness so others can contribute to make their lives better, to give them a future and a hope.
