This week's #CreativeCityCrush is Patrick Gilbert Productions! A professional artist working in cinematography, photography, illustration, and drone aerial Photo/video. What does creativity mean to me? "I think creativity means always having a certain kind of curiosity, and being able transform yourself into anything you want to become, if you're willing to put in the effort. There are so many things to do, learn, make, listen to, watch, feel, etc There's always new oppor...tunity, always something to look forward to. It's hard to imagine a life without the ability to keep growing through my own creative work, and also enjoying other people's creativity. There's so much to take in and be inspired by, and the more creative a community is, the better off everyone is because of it." Artistic accomplishment? "Well, I have received awards and recognitions but really having been able to support a family entirely through my creative work over the past 20 years is what I'm most proud of and always so grateful for. My challenge is taking on projects that have a commercial goal, and still giving them plenty of artistic value. I want to put together videos, designs, music, illustrations or photos that serve the specific purpose for a client, but that really could also be seen as works of art on their own like an image that a person is actually happy to hang on their wall, even though it was originally created for a marketing campaign. It's a good feeling when that happens. Because most of my creative work is for corporate purposes, it may not be seen by people as art, and I get that but in the end, I don't want to just be a "content creator", producing meaningless work to be plugged here and there to fill space. I hope to make things that actually have some real impact on people, that are still meaningful many years later. I know I might not be able to reach that goal 100% of the time, but I'll always try anyway!" What now? "After all these years, and everything I've been lucky enough to experience working in the creative sector, I still feel like I'm actually just getting started. I look forward to finally putting more of a focus on collaborating with other artists in the future, something I haven't had the chance to do very much in the past. I have no idea what new relationships and adventures are on the way I know I still have so much more to learn, and that's pretty exciting."
