Hi everyone! Fun fact about me! (Get ready, kind of a long post!) Did you know that I now live in Vancouver and have continued my practice here in Alberta!?!... People are often surprised and wonder how this happened. Here it is in a nutshell (sort of) from the beginning...... I grew up in Medicine Hat, with a short tour to BC for post secondary back in 2003. Go SFU!! We loved living there and always planned to make a life there. However, plans changed and we were meant to come back for a short (long) stay. Moved back to Alberta in 2007- worked as a Behavioral Consultant for SD76 , Supervised a Mental Health program and worked at AHS as a Mental Health Therapist. Decided to buy a house, have two kids, complete my Masters, and also focus on my husbands career. After all these wonderful opportunities and life blessings, I decided to take a leap of faith and start a private practice here in Medicine Hat (Est. 2013). Over the years, I steadily became busier and saw a need in our community. To have a team that could work with children both in a clinic environment and in their home. Where they could learn new skills and ways to cope, but also be supported to do it in the real world. To help parents implement strategies learned in clinic into real life situations. I was able to realize my dream of having a team under one roof that could provide this service. My team consists of an Administrative Assistant, Child and Family Coaches, Counsellors/Therapists and me! We also work with Occupational Therapists, Physicians, School Teams and Speech Pathologists in the Community (Multi-Disciplinary Teams). This team approach has allowed me to provide services to many families through the use of in-home/community supports, therapy/assessment in clinic, and counselling and consulting via Skype/Phone. After moving to Calgary for a couple years and doing this work long-distance, I realized I could do this from anywhere. So...as a family, we decided to finally make the trek back to the lower mainland. I am blessed to be able to work from home and travel back every three weeks to see my clients. Great example of limit setting. A big part of teaching new behaviours is teaching your child what they can do differently the next time. It means that I can officially say that I specialize in working with children, have thousands of hours of practice in this area, have specialized training in psycho-therapy as it relates to trauma and complex disorders, and countless hours of additional specialized supervision. ... What does this mean for you? It means I can continue to help your little ones by using all this extra knowledge and experience.
