My husband loves music therapy. Somehow it transmits to him. Even now, when he does not talk, he feels the music that is for him, it really does heal, shares ...Linda, a music therapy participant at Cedarview Lodge. Because of the pandemic, music therapy has been pushed aside at a lot of Long Term Care facilities. But there is no need to keep the music out, as Certified Music Therapists can work with other care aids in the facility to provide safe, distanced, accessible music therapy. Certified Music Therapists hope to continue uniquely addressing the individual needs of seniors in Long term Care. By employing cognitive techniques, knowledge of a person’s life history, and a repertoire of music that is familiar and meaningful to the resident, CMTs are able to relate to each person at any level of cognitive decline, perhaps ‘holding’ them a little longer before they slip away.
