Repair Café Toronto will be back in action starting today, accepting your items for repair. Please give your items a quick cleaning and inspection for pests before dropping them off!
We apologize for the short notice, but Repair Cafe Toronto and Creative Reuse Toronto are closing for a few weeks. Opening again in January if the lockdown permits and the health of volunteers is not at risk - especially Paul, one of the driving forces and the face of Repair Cafe Toronto who has been running the repair program at 68 Abell. Hang onto those repair projects until we can open up again! ... We may have to double up on our hours for Repair Cafe Toronto when the program reopens! Let’s all do what we can to slow the virus down and protect our frontline and essential workers! And everyone in our community.
Tree created by Helen Melbourne and constructed for Creative Reuse Toronto. This tree symbolizes the circular cycle of life and was inspired by the Nurse trees in old growth forests on Vancouver Island and the wind beaten pines of the Great Lakes. The stumps of Nurse trees provide the nourishment and support for a new tree rooted in, and growing from, the decaying substance of the old tree. ... Creative Reuse Toronto hopes to encourage and facilitate new growth , new skills, new use for old materials, the circular economy, and community growth, through wise stewardship of material resources and the symbiotic relationship of intergenerational knowledge and skills. Created from 10.5 lbs of reclaimed materials that would have otherwise ended in landfill. Only one small piece of this tree was a new purchase. All ornaments are also created from rescued materials and scrap. The tree is also reuseable, can be dismantled for storage, and most importantly, 100% can be reused or repurposed into something else. Although created for this holiday season, the tree will be used throughout the year. For more information about contruction, or to obtain materials to make your own ornaments, contact our email address. Individual ornaments are available for a minimum donation of $15.00 to help us continue our work and help us keep going until we can offer in-person classes and services safely.
Creative Reuse Toronto is hosting Repair Cafe Toronto every week as possible. Front door drop-off and pick-up of items by appointment only. Masks required. Please note that only clean, pest-free items can be accepted for repairs.
